Personally 4 since Platinum was excellent and HG/SS fixed most of the stuff wrong with the originals. Also, 4th gen had some cool pokes

I like Gen 5 because it felt like the pinnacle of the series, I like Gen 3 for reasons other than Hoenn, mostly FRLG and the spinoffs even though I liked Hoenn, but I'm most nostalgic for Gen II since Silver was the first Pokemon game I got the day it came out and I was almost the perfect age for loving it

Gen V knocked it out of the park for me, and is really what got me back into Pokemon. Gen III really didn't work for me when it came out, and I wanted to like Gen IV but it just bored me to tears. Gen V rekindled my passion for the series and got me to appreciate the previous gens more. I can't wait for the Gen III and inevitable Gen IV remakes!

Let me see.. In order:

3 (Emerald + FRLG.. Mmm good)
4 (SSHG were the best Pokemon games ever but DPPt weren't good enough to push past 3)
6 (X&Y were glorious but lack of postgame.. Can't judge ASOR yet though I'm sure they'll be good)
1 (Originals with damn fine most things. Have aged terribly)
2 (Meh. Always thought were a bit overrated, humorous given how amazing the remakes were)
5 (Endless pile of shit. Couldn't even get through BW. B2W2 were a bit better. Still, like a lot of Pokemon from gen 5. Unova a shit though. Story even more a shit. /vp/ is literally the only place that likes gen 5)

The only near-essential improvement that it didn't have that almost kills it for me was the physical/special split, but there's HG/SS for that
