I've had my first gen DS since they were new, and it's old, grimey and worn, but it hasn't ceased to function at all.
I've spilled coke over it like, two or three times, I've dropped it in the floor countless times, there's an ugly old scratch on the touch-screen.
Dog knocked it on the floor with his tail a good couple of times some later years, and that eventually took a chip out of the corner over the R button, but the fucking thing still works.
I only switched to a 3DS now so that I could play Pokémon X (though I must say, the 3DS is quite nice, even if the battery time is short, it has lots of little nice things that add up).
You have to be an utter fucking mong to brick a DS.
