One thing that scares me is that they could probably leave Wally's team unchanged (i.g. with Magneton and Roselia instead of Magnezone and Roserade).

I mean, look at Silver's team, they left him with Magneton and Sneasel, that was fucking stupid. Five years later, i'm still mad.
And don't give me the argument "there was no place where he could evolve Magneton due to magnetism" or "he didn't have a Razor Claw", it's a NPC, they don't give a fuck about that kind of things.

I'd be pretty amped, to be honest. Wally, both as he appears in the games and the Adventure Comics, is a pretty cool dude, and finding out that his lot in life had improved significantly since the events of Ruby and Sapphire would make me a happy camper.

I don't see how these alter Gardevoir's premise as an angelic protector. What you have outlined is only visible on deviantART.

Branched evos are a terrific idea - care to elaborate why it was a bad path to take in this case?

Angels and guardian spirits/angels have a wide range of depictions - from armoured knights to pure and graceful beings.

Design of Mega Garde fits its theme as a fairy royalty to a T. If Gardevoir had been retconned to have a special fighting movepool for example, then your concerns would have been more valid.

Frankly, provided that we will get a Mega Gallade as soon as ORAS comes out, I'd rather have Mega Gallade and his stone introduced in early parts of the game than wait for it 'till E4. Granted, some glamour would be lost, but letting people to snag such a mega as soon as possible would be just as good of a promo.

Oh yeah me too like the dancer, nerd, girl who was there for the sake of being a girl, and the "wanna be the very best" with no story or development whatsoever. Gen 4 marked the slow decline in real rivals. Blue was THE RIVAL, Silver was the dark rival with a backstory, Wally was a rival on a journey with a purpose to grow up and feel better, Barry was a jerk but somewhat fun friend. Gen 5 was the decline because bianca was useless and cheren would have been better if he had a personality. Hugh was alright. Gen 6 was... just bad
