So I decided to play the older gens a while back (and more now that I need to kill some time until ORAS) and am playing gen 1 right now (red game - not FireRed)

The thing is that since Pidgey is my favorite bird pokemon, I thought it would be nice to get a shiny one. I spent a week battling pidgey on the starter routes, but so far nothing.

I tried searching cheat codes to enable shiny on gen 1, but found nothing about it.

Can someone help me?

(pic kinda related: I couldn't find gen 1 shiny images, so have a gen 2 one)

Just to be a pedantic dick but shinys do sort of exist in gen 1, they're just not visibly different. It's possible to transfer them and they become shiny.
OP, catch 8000 pidgey, transfer them to a gen 2 game, and if non are shiny repeat.

You have to do something similar to that to unlock shinies.

First you have to talk to professor oak 60 times. That tricks the RNG in the game to reveal shinies.

After you talk to him 60 times, you have to get into the grass on the outside of pallet town. the grass that is not accessible normally. To do this, you have to stand in the northeast most corner, and press b+a+up down at exactly the right time. The timing is based off of the music. You have to do it EXACTLY when it starts to loop. If you do it correctly, you'll be able to walk over the barrier and into the grass on the outside of pallet town. Here is where you'll be able to catch shinies.
