Gameplay is meh, could be worse.
The real meat is the story. It takes a while to kick in, but even then, it's delightful playing the game as intrepid explorers, teaming up with a skittish partner pokemon, and watching them get more confident and adventurous is great.
Essentially the story is all fun and jolly adventures, until you get to the time gear plot. And then shit gets really fucking real.
