It will definitely get a mega. Anyone who denies it is either playing dumb or actually dumb.

The mega ability could still be unburden, but that would be pretty shitty of them.

The only real question is what type the mega will be. I think they are gona cop-out and just do Dragon.

I would hope for grass/fire or grass/electric, but GF doesn't seem to like fun combos as much as we thought. Otherwise we would have these by now.

If your Pokemon is holding a Mega Stone, then your intention is to Mega evolve it. Whatever ability it has in its base form is irrelevant.

You know Sceptile can hold non-consumable items anyway, right? A Sceptile holding a Mega Stone is no different to a Sceptile holding a Choice Specs. If you're giving him any non-consumable then obviously you don't want Unburden.

Gamefreak clearly did not expect to be making mega evolution when they dished out the HA's.

Just look at Swampert's useless ass ability. I know it wasn't useless back in the day, but there is almost no use to it now, other than to laugh at it.

Swampert is going to be awesome with a new Ability and a mega. (it won't be sap sipper, stop trying)

It will probably be mold breaker.

And many don't. Charizard's Solar Power doesn't activiate without Sun, which only happens when he Mega evolves, at which point he loses Solar Power anyway.

Besides which, Unburdened isn't "rendered completely useless by a Mega", it's rendered completely useless by ANY non-consumable item. This problem has nothing to do with its Mega.

Irrelevant =/= Useless

Once you've Mega evolved your Heracross it is no longer relevant that it used to have Moxie, because it doesn't any more. Hence the fact that your Sceptile once had Unburden is irrelevant for whatever considerations they might make about its Mega.

Except better in every conceivable way, 21 more Base Attack, 30 more Base Special Defense, 14 more Base Defense and even 4 more Base HP. Also only two weaknesses.

A Pokemon's pre-Mega ability is an irrelevant consideration for it's Mega Evolution. That doesn't mean the Pokemon can't use it's pre-Mega ability, just that Game Freak aren't going to say "oh no we can't make Mega Sceptile because then Unburden wouldn't work!".

Reptiles =/= dragons
Sure dragons are reptilian, but that doesn't mean just because an animal's a reptile doesn't mean its draconian. And last I checked, as of Generation VI, Sceptile can only learn two dragon-type moves, one from a TM, and the other from breeding.
