Do you actually like your pokemon, or are they just numbers and pixels in a game to you? Currently trying to raise my affection with an Eevee that I caught and she's starting to grow on me.

I love every single one of them. I only have about a dozen, but they're all 5-6 IV with egg moves and such, full trained and leveled.

I've bred a lot more, and caughy some awesome ones but at the end of the day my competitive bred and trained Pokemon feel like family.

Absolutely. I'm still buttblasted that I can never transfer my gen 2 team over to gen 3-6. I had to recatch/retrain them all in HGSS in order to get them into the current gen. it isnt the same ;-;

I kinda thought part of the fun of Pokes was getting attached to them. I mean, competitively bred ones don't get much love, but yeah, I get attached to the ones I use. Big time, usually. Of course it's not real, but you can still feel good about exercising your affection muscles.

In every game I play, I never nickname my pokemon until they "prove themselves"

Not even become the best pokemon, but survive a crit, or oneshot a higher level pokemon, or not kill my capture. They then get a nickname. And I keep them with me forever.

And I know how that goes, I caught an Eevee in X just to get Sylveon, got attached to her and she stayed in my party still to this day.

Usually some kind of outstanding performance or pulling out a win when I thought I was going to lose. If I wind up sweeping through everything in the game with ease I probably won't get attached to anyone, but if there is some tension at some point I feel closer to them.

It's incredibly difficult to actually get attached to a Pokemon simply because it can become unusable with something as simple as an egg move. All the time and effort put into that one Pokemon only for something like a move or an ability to come along that makes the one you have now obsolete. A slowking from Ruby is going to be completely useless, and will sit in a box or be deleted while a new Slowking with it's hidden ability and egg moves will be used until something else comes along. It's all a time game.

Competitive players such as smogonfags have a hard time getting attached to their Pokemon, since they only use them for battle.

Karenfags, as the name implies, will try to win with their favorite Pokemon. In the Game Grumps Pokemon Fire Red playthrough, Egoraptor/Arin seems to be the biggest karenfag, as his main is apparently Beedrill, his favorite, as opposed to any Pokemon that one would consider "the best".

No, I know it hates me. It has to. No pokemon can bear fainting like 80 fucking times until its level is high enough to offset the difference in stats. I'm afraid to open Pokemon-Amie because I know that smile is fake. Behind those cheerful eyes is an expression of hurt and hatred.

Dexin gives me Return to further deepen the sting. This is going to be a very long and agonizing road, anon. This is going to hurt me just as much as it hurts Minun.

I like specific Pokemon.

The Pokemon in my game I don't necessarially feel that same attachment since the bonding is harder.

The only ones that I get to bond with really is the ones that pull through for me. Unfortunately that means the pokemon that have been given more of a finger by game freak or not blessed with the greatness of game freak usually don't get to shine.

Somewhat. I'll always keep my ingame teams no matter what (in Total in xy I used about 13 different pokemon throughout my whole game) and I still keep them. As for competitive mons, I get attached only to the ones that I come up with myself and I didn't breed just because they're "good".
Also one time I hatched a shiny swirlix with the Absolute perfect amount of IVs (it's the cotton guard + calm mind set, and it has 31 in everything except Attack, where is has 2, so no confusion shenanigans). I decided to get every possible ribbon on it, and so far I have every one except the super battle maison ribbon. Can't wait 'till ORAS release, so I can get the contest ribbons.

It's actually possible via ROM. Still possible via cart, but the hardware to do a ROM dump may be hard to find. the Pokemon may or may not be legal in later gens without a few modifications

The Swellow I caught in my original Sapphire did more work than my starter and saved my ass a few times with crits and Return so the only Pokemon I really care about are that Swellow and her descendants I've transferred to each following gen.
