They look the same because red and blue together gives you purple.

But I guess no one in Game Freak has heard of the color magenta (a variation of purple), because that would have been the perfect color for Latias, while Latios could remain purple. It's stupid for them to be the same color.

This could be true,the return to jet origins theme. The wing shape strongly reminds me of the Me 262,which was the first productional jet fighter.

Soul Dew's also banned from every competitive setting, both official and unofficial. The Mega Stnes are better simply for the fact that you'll actually be allowed to use them in a real battle.

Latias and Latios are supposed to be siblings and therefor share similar DNA, I guess. That'S why they looks similar. Latias is actually a tad smaller than Latios and they have different eye colors.
Both being purple is a nice touch, since blue and red = purple. I still dislike their designs.
