What this anon said. I'd rather have the huge routes that made the land areas of Hoenn great and have the overworld broken up than having the region be a dumbed-down version of itself.

Yes, those are what gates.

I'd rather have them. RSE routes were fun to explore and it'll be even better in 3D

RSE has the longest routes in the series and never really made use of gates. The current engine has trouble running at 30 FPS even with gates.

Hoenn had no gates due to how the maps themselves were designed, And it was a GBA game running at 60 fps, after all.

I kind of wonder how water routes would work, actually... That said, at least for the land routes, gates are fine. But figuring out how water routes will be fixed is going to be quite puzzling, and having gates out at sea would just be weird.
