Why is a relatively creative franchise like Digimon unpopular compared to something as creatively void as Pokemon?

Pokemon got made slightly earlier -> Kids thought it was a rip-off although both franchises got developed at the same time
It also had very heavy Nintendo backing and marketing, the Gameboy games with the trading and fighting your friends shit quickly made it popular

The games were always rather mediocre, stayed the same and had small upgrades over time, the anime was utter shit.

Digimon basically only got big after they did the Myotismon arc for Adventure, then saw that it was a hit and basically improvised everything from there, no actual marketing/business strategy behind it.
The anime had some god tier seasons and some bad shit, varying quality.
Some good games like Digimon World 1, some shit, varying quality.

Conceptually Digimon is better, but Pokemon is bigger because nostalgia, autism and mainstream popularity

Shaded by Pokemon.
No consistency within their games.
3 cancelled series.
Like 5 different TCGs.
Shitty american dub.
Changing characters every season made it unappealing for the children.
When the first 4 seasons were aired their videogames were either untranslated WonderSwan games or V-Pets that didn't hold a shit for the GB Pokemon pandemic ones.

I like Digimon better, but they are quite stupid at marketing.

Pokemon had an amazing set of games to go along with the tv series, however Digimon outclassed the shit out of it when it came to TV shows. However the gidimon games were...bleh.

Plus it wasn't as widely marketed in america and it caused a lot of children to think that it was a ripoff of pokemon.

Adventures S1 and Tamers were my favorite series. I'm not ashamed to admit that I dropped S2 after how bad it turned out to be. Never gave any of the other TV series a watch, and I probably should some time.

Pokemon used simple mechanics, had cute and cool looking pokemon. More importantly it's premises was collecting, trading and battling with friends. So any jackass could pick it up and play. Digimon didn't have that, plus with Nintendo marketing when it saw it was a hit, just took over. Not that hard really, Pokemon is accessible for everyone Digimon the games isn't, plus have more things that you can do and it ends up being a game for just about anyone.

That's what it got me tired from Adventure/02. The children were mostly damsels in distress in every battle. Also that aside from Etemon, every villain was an evil being made exclusively from darkness, evil and more darkness.

Pretty much, in fact the Cartoon just served as nothing more than a commercial for the Pokemon Merchandise. In some ways Pokemon cartoon was akin to the 80's Transformers, and G.I. Joe cartoons. Mix it up with the trading, the collecting, and the battling while have a diverse range of pokemon that went from cute to cool, and it appealed to everyone. One of the reason why pokemon kept it's battle style of 4 moves turn based battle. Rather easy to jump in, only have to do changes here and there to improve, such as abilities, hold items, natures, limiting of EV spread for custom sets of pokemon, and the physical and special split.

unfortunately, the friend list monsters are all pure breeds, and any new monsters introduced by updates cannot be produced by this method. So that leaves you with very little monsters you can generate, giving you little reason to have more than a handful of friends.

it would load for like 4-5 seconds before starting a battle which doesn't sound so bad at first, until you're fighting your 32nd numemon in a dungeon or something.

I remember when I tried playing it on an emulator and the load times shrank considerably it was a lot more playable, but I discovered that the textures they gave all the digimon were all quite good at the time - so good that honestly you wouldn't even be able to see it because of the screen resolution - meaning that elements that contributed to the load times could not even be seen by someone playing the game legitimately on the console proper.

They would pull this shit again on both sequels on the PSX.

Seriously though - Digimon World had some of the worst load times of any PSX games in both frequency and length, which is a huge detriment given how grindy the game is.

Which is a shame because it is quite fun - I did finally manage to finish it on emulator though.

The shitmon (Numemon) is mandatory to get Monzaemon in Toy Town, once you get it you can steamroll the entire game with it since it's very powerful and the game gets a lot easier after you get it. But if you want other good digimon instead of it the most important thing is to have portable potties to prevent it from shitting everywhere and to pay a lot of attention to its weight and specific stats, since if you fail to meet them it either dies or becomes a shitmon.

Anyway I think the reason Digimon is so unpopular especially nowadays is because they don't have the same support from the company as they had back then, since they are completely ignoring the West, especially for the games (and Decode could be useful to revive the franchise in that aspect). Also all the evolution branches have become way too confusing and intricate, it's very hard to memorize all of them.

Savers was successful. Sales of merchandise during the Savers era was much higher than that of Frontier. We've even seen a ton of Digimon vidya released during the Savers period too including the DS games and an MMORPG that sill running to this day. The best part is that every Savers-era game was localized including the shitty PS2 game. It was a miracle that Savers did as well as it did since ratings of long running anime, such as Detective Conan and Pokemon, were at a low. Also, Xros aired shortly after Savers ended. If Savers were a flop, then they wouldn't have been so quick to invest in Xros.

tl;dr Savers saved the franchise, but Xros fucked it up. Xros should've been 50 episodes like all the other series. It overstayed its welcome.

The "guy with the goggles and metalgreymon" was Tai and his series, Digimon Adventure, had proper closure. Agumon had an extra stage, WarGreymon, somewhere at the middle of the series. Matt got MetalGarurumon in turn, and the other kids didn't get a Mega (in a recent PSP game their mega stages were revealed though).

After that, Digimon Adventure 02 featured the kids from the first series being a bit older and the series shifted its focus to a new leader, Davis with his Digimon, Veemon. Tai just got older and Agumon is there but they don't show as often because new protagonist. The series featured two new evolution types: Armor (Ancient items called Digieggs allow Digimon to evolve into a Champion-like form, this was neccesary because they couldn't get a proper Champion thanks to the effect of some dark spires) and DNA (real name is "Jogress", two Digimon can combine and form a higher stage). DNA evolution has since become a staple in the series.

The series you're quoting is Digimon Tamers, it happens in an alternate universe where Digimon cards are a thing, and three kids who play them get their own Digimon while an organization called Hypnos makes an attempt to delete them from the real world. Go watch it and try not to cry at the end, it's an 8/10 series at worst.

The same base rules are almost always in place, their is just a new gimmick on how they are applied.

Every series you get Rookie -> Champion -> Ultimate -> Mega. The exception is Xros Wars where evolution is a process that happens over time (Which it always has in Digimon just more spontaneously). We get shown Shoutmon a year after the main series in Young Hunters where he is taller and has slightly different body armor as he is slowly on his way to obtaining the OmegaShoutmon form. Ever since the beginning, Digivolution has been a Digimon temporally taking on a future form.

Basically. This happens in every season, and the Digivice actually serve as a catalyst for a temporary induced evolution of the Digimon. Otherwise, Digimon take years before evolving to a new form (this is true in every canon) and when they do it's permanent and it depends on their environment. Their evolution allows them to adapt.

Tamers is very good, I remember not being impressed with certain parts of it that people still like though.
Megidramon still leaves me unimpressed, reminds me of skullgreymon from adventure, but dumber.

The anime, digimon was better in not only the visual aspects of it, but also character development and overall plot, pokemon...starts at the beginning every god damn season with the same characters, atleast with digimon they knew how to change and in like 02 they had the mentors of the previous season to aid them. As for games digimon is a huge pile of shit. Aside from Digimon World 1 most are horrible (not even talking about rumble).

In terms of universe the digimon universe is too inconstentand change with every new series which is bad in my opinion. Even though I love the monsters who are actually better designed and the evolution tree is really interesting.
Why pokémon is more popular?Much more emphasis on the anime. You could watch an episode of pokémon as a stand alone while you wouldn't understand anything in a digimon episode without seeing the beginning. Pokémon are also cuter and less crual than digimon so it is more child friendly and had more backup from tv channels in the west.

Anyway love both and I'm still playing with my pendulum 4
