Other than that, what I remember most were the interactions with the legendary birds.
When you go to save Shiftry from Zapdos, your partner is scared shitless of it the whole time you're on the mission and tries to put on a brave face.
In the later encounters, in trying to protect you and clear your name, your partner may still be a bit surprised and scared, but they still stand up to protect you. At the beginning, their main reason for teaming up with you is because of their dream of being in a Rescue Team. By the end though, I think they grasp what being in a Rescue Team means and rather than liking you because you helped them achieve their dream, they actually deeply care about you. I remember being surprised at the difference between the partner at the beginning and at the end.
At the end of Rescue Team, I felt bad for the partner because they lost their friend. I didn't doubt that they could function without me though and carry on the team themselves. At the end of Explorers, the partner's whole reason for existing seems to vanish alongside you, as they don't go on missions or do anything for like a month until Dialga brings you back. Any character growth or whatever they actually got in the game is entirely undone by you leaving them. This probably was my biggest complaint with Explorers was that they were largely an annoying mouthpiece hanger-on until the very end, and I couldn't connect with them.
