>>19303568VGC player here. i think that the bishop is perfect for bisharp.
it's not a linear pokemon, though it may seem that way - despite all its base stats being so low and sucker punch jumping out as his best quality, you have to look beneath the surface to find a winning strategy to lock up a checkmate.
a bishop moves in a diagonal pattern across the board - linear, yet not so. bisharp has the obvious sucker punch, but you musn't forget about his hidden qualities - that is his ability, defiant. with it, intimidate gives him a boost (intimi is popular in VGC, where kang and garchomp are prominent attackers). it's good in that respect - but that's not all. if you look even deeper, you'll realise its a perfect counter to another fantastic pokemon - aegislash, as it is unaffected by king's shield and pressures aegislash immensely.
beyond that, even a straight forward attack has much utility with bisharp. for example, in VGC, it makes great use of the move assurance, as a fast partner with rock slide or fake out can get the chip for bisharp to really come in hard and check mate.
so, a bishop is perfect for bisharp.
