Why would they do that? Gems were barely viable back when they were 1.5x, but now they're strictly inferior to Life Orb (unless you're running AcroGem or something).

They're huge in VGC where they were a free 50% boost and the longevity wasn't an issue since games are short as hell. Now I don't know if the damage from LO is going to be discouraging enough to make using a gem worth it when LO does so much more.
