I'm in need of a little help /vp/

right now all my friends on facebook are into a "ash sucks, red rules" circlejerk. They keep posting comparisons and calling ash "reds retarded brother."

I was wondering if there was some kind of comparison that goes in favor of ash or something that points out that he is a better protagonist for a tv show.

I just don't understand the sudden hate for ash.

Ash has always been hated for being an incompetent trainer (not evolving his Pokemon for one, having various Deus Ex Machinas, ie Thunder Armour, and basically his BW existence), though he has shown signs that he can be pretty good (Sinnoh and I hear Kalos is shaping him up the same way).

Meanwhile, Red gets hate for being "redgy".

I actually really hate this argument. Red and Ash are the same person. what people misconstrue is that Red is his own character… Red is you… and whatever pokemon you catch is his team. For the purposes of the show, they gave the character a similar design with a mixture of red and blue colors due to the games that were released, seeing as the games were in either red or blue shades. it only made sense to mix the pallet. For the purposes of the plot, they made ash ignorant to the ways of training and gave him his own personality instead of just making him know everything and be all powerful… its a sense of progression, always learning. My main point for this argument is that.. if they weren't the same character.. or represented the same person. then why on mount silver does he have ashes whole party? Its because thats the one party associated with him beyond your own experiences as red. "Red evolves his team and blah blah blah." thats because he was set as a boss type character within the game but in the show like i said, its a sense of progression.. if he evolved everything and made it so easy to destroy people in battle, the show wouldn't still be going on. Im a writer in my spare time and I know the building blocks of a good story. shit can't just be all climax all the time.. which is what Origins was and thats why origins only had like 12 episodes.

Anyways, Origins only had 4 episodes, but it was just Charizard pandering the whole time. Aside from that, yeah, this makes sense.

People usually don't like characters of neverending histories, basically because they don't evolve at all. Or, in Ash's case, they evolve very little before being set to ground zero after each and every league challenge.

As Red you can simply do better. Not to mention, in the mangas he isn't half as bad as Ash is, in general.

Yeah, it makes sense to be a noob when you begin on something........now, if you didnt progress in 17 years, there's something wrong with you.

Origins was only 4 episodes. But I don't expect a person that defends Ash to be able to count.
And it wasnt climax all the time, only the third and fourth ovas were.
