In the games, you start out with a 1500 ranking. Does Smogon do something different, like start out with a rank of 0 or something? I never go to those fan made battle simulator websites.

It used to be that you start with 1000 and can go below or above that depending on how good you are/how much you suck.

Now they start you at 1000 and if you lose you just stay at 1000. 1000 is the rating floor. Ratings go up to 2000. 1500 is a 1:1 win/loss ratio iirc.
