I enjoyed Kanto and Johto very much, but as others have said, a break from Ash's shit was nice. The show's been downhill since Hoenn for me.

Ash staying Ten forever and constantly asking the same dumb questions just got too much for me. I like story progression which was shown fairly clearly through Kanto, Johto, and very briefly through Hoenn.

In my case, I saw the whole Kanto series, but by the time the Organge Islands rolled around I started noticing the flaws of the show. Once they arrived at Jotho and everything stayed the same, I decided to give up on the show. Since then, I've tried to watch every other series, but I give up after watching 10 episodes.

I enjoyed kanto and jhoto, orange islands was kinda shitty to me, I liked kanto because of the dumb stuff and jhoto because I loved the game, But Hoenn was just really boring.

Anything that isn't typical Ash shit is more enjoyable because it's a breath of fresh air. Chronicles, Pokemon Origins, the The Mega Evolution special, I found them all more entertaining than usual main anime episodes.
