No but they could have given it a better ability that would have made it SO much better yet still fit the Magic theme. I mean seriously, fucking Magician on a Special Attacker? Anything else would have been better. Magic Guard or Magic Bounce would have really given Delphox a little niche.

But to be honest, It really doesn't make much sense for a mage to have a shallow movepool. Traditionally, Mages are supposed to be versatile and powerful, but frail. Hopefully tutors will be kind to delphox.

A tripfag and a stupid faggot. Both abilities fit Greninja flavor-wise but you're not gonna give a mage a thief-like ability when another starter is a Dark type and just give the ability a name with "Magic" in it.

GF must have some semblance of how viable Abilities would be. Stance Change, Protean? Obviously good. Would it be too much to ask to give Delphox the rare Magic Guard? A bunch of Psychic types gets Magic Bounce.

Delphox is alright. It's still a bit flimsy over in RU and somedays I can't get it to work right.

Typhlosion is what happens when something doesn't get any useful moves/abilities for two straight gens and barring it getting the Blaziken treatment not much is going to push it out of RU let alone UU.

Magmortar has always been ehh. How are you even supposed to run that thing?

Well, except Delphox, who pushed it out of RU and into NU. Cause there's no reason to use Typhlosion over Delphox. Literally zero. No, not even Earth Power would help, as:

-Delphox is faster
-Delphox has higher SpA
-Delphox has a secondary STAB and STAB Psyshock, which is a super good move for a special attacker. It gets almost perfect coverage from Fire/Psychic, and Grass Knot covers up some dual typed Rock and Water types that do resist the combination. Fire/Psychic/Grass has almost perfect coverage in RU
-Delphox has Calm Mind

Sub Calm Mind with Sub/CM/Psyshock/Fire and leftovers. Kills stall
Calm Mind with CM/Psyshock/Fire Blast | Flamethrower/Grass Knot and Life Orb. Kills stalls even harder.
Scarf with Fire Blast/Psyshock/Grass Knot/Switcheroo which can revenge kill a bunch of stuff.
Specs with the same moves.

And then gimmicky shit that tries to make use of Magician, like Solar Beam+Power Herb.

Ok fine. Let's say Delphox is as good as you say it is, that the furfag wizard is beating ru to death. What can counter it? Cresselia? Hell like that's staying. Slowking? Not when it can pack grass knot and shadow ball. Eventually Delphox will be suspected, and if it is as powerful as you say it will be banned.

And doesn't stand a chance in hell in UU where Houndoom, Chandelure and Victini are available.

It is still the weakest fully evolved Kalos starter and it is not much above Gallade in a tier between UU and NU.

I just wish that GF finally reaches a consistent, workable idea as to what Gallade is supposed to be on the competitive field. I'm tired of hearing over and over again how much of a no-no it is to even consider evolving one.

It is no secret that the dev team responsible for managing stats, abilities and balance has less love for their work than GF's designers and artists.

Which is a shame given how much time has already passed. I really hope that they could apply individual ability quantifiers to the more overpowered or weak pokemon in order to narrow the distance between competitive plateaus and make the metagame more varied.

Graphic designers and concept artists that GF has at their disposal managed to show that they are capable of pushing themselves forward - I hope that in the near future the same could be said about GF's stat number crunchers.

I'd be more interested in the double battle format viability, to be honest. Situational abilities are never a good thing for single mode, especially when such pokemon as Gallade has nothing else to offer in that regard.

Hopefully they can bring his ability count to a grand total of three up from current two.

What Delphox needed was a better signature move. I can understand the other two having kinda 'eh, nice but im not using it' signature moves but delphox is a fucking wizard. His signature move should be a claim to fame. When a Wizard starts casting a unique spell that only they can use, you are supposed to pray to god you can avoid it or tank the hit, not just get kinda annoyed if you're a special attacker.

Some shit like a damaging surefire burn that didn't have garbage accuracy like purgatory. At least then it would have a niche.

It also needed for gems to be attainable and not nerfed for no good reason whatsoever so It could utilize Magician decently.
