To make a long story short I'm doing a statistics project about the masuda method, and I need some data. All I need from you is how many eggs it took to hatch a shiny, and whether or not you were using the masuda method. Simple as that.

How do you think I feel, running this project? I've heard everything from 3 in a row in less than 10 eggs each to upwards of 3000 with no luck. If there's one thing I've learned from this class it's that probability is utter bullshit.

2 shiny totodiles within 100 eggs and a shiny furret in 60. No masada method but had shiny charm. I'm not sure if I'm just lucky or shiny charm works with breeding.

Similar experience. I was breeding for pentaperfect female eevees so no MM but got two shinies within 200 eggs (had shiny charm). Tried MMing for shiny ghastly with shiny charm. Im 900 eggs in and still nothing. Maybe masuda method negates the effects of shiny charm

i hatched 9 shiny espurrs. The first one showed up second box and the rest were pretty much every 20 to 30 boxes. I lost count for most of them, so have the ones i do know.

I've bred a ton more but didn't count however they were mostly all very quick, usually in around 100ish eggs

In saying that though I bred for froakie with both the shiny charm and MM and got to 2,000 eggs before just giving up

This data might be skewed towards likelihood because not everyone who has tried MM has seen it through to getting a shiny, some proportion of people will given up meaning sooner hatches are more likely to be reported

I hatched two shiny beldums with 90 eggs. One with shit IVs because it was an accident. The other one with perfect IVs.

A fennekin withing 150 eggs. It was my 145th I believe.

A Froakie within 600 eggs.

A Ralts within 500 eggs. Perfect IVs, female, Trace. Awesome day.

A Tyrunt within 1000 eggs. Fucking missing defense. Fuck you RNG.

And I'm currently trying for a shiny Eevee in a Dusk ball for a nice Umbreon. 1500 eggs in... Fuck you Masuda.

I have shiny charm and MM-ing.

I gotta say I'm thrilled with the amount of data you guys are giving me, but if anyone has numbers from non-masuda breeding I need that more than anything else right now, shiny charm or no. Obviously there's not a lot of people who do it that way so we're a little short on data in that category.

I thought Non-MM are basically 1/4096 chances. Same as wild Pokemon.
Don't know why you would need more data than that.

The whole point of the project is to test empirical data against the given proportions, whether the proportions are correct or not. Obviously I know that's the actual rate programmed in, the assignment is just to verify it with data.

For the tests to be legitimate you need a large sample size. For some reason every single textbook defines "large" as >40, so that's what we're aiming for in both populations. Obviously we can't/don't want to do that many tests on our own.

I've MMd 72 shinies in X and have gotten them anywhere from egg 1 to about egg 1000, but the average takes about 400-500 eggs based on hatching about 200 eggs in a day with an alternating schedule of using up o-power and filling boxes with eggs until o-power refills.
The first 25 or so were without the shiny charm, but the difference between charm and no charm didn't seem very large if at all for my case.
