I'm playing HG for the first time and this is my team as I'm about to face the Elite Four for the first time. All lvl 40-42.

Same situation using Gengar, Magnezone, Feraligator, Machamp, Scizor and Lugia

In Kanto Machamp got switched with Snorlax and Feraligator with Kingdra

Are you using a no trade evolution hack?

I should also mention I used a Zubat, Geodude, and Growlithe for a long time during the game, but they ended up getting replaced by Magnemite, Psyduck, and Rhyhorn, respectively. Between the Zubat, Gastly/Haunter, Magnemite/Magneton, and Kadabra, my team was pretty fucking similar to Silver's throughout the game.

I did use a Growlithe for a long time because I love Arcanine but ended up shelving it for Rhydon.

my Growlithe was the 2nd-squishiest member of my team after Kadabra and had a disappointing attack stat. I was gonna wait until it learned Flare Blitz to evolve it, but then I saw a Rhyhorn early on Victory Road just one level below it and figured if I was going to grind a couple levels before the Elite Four it may as well be with a Pokemon that doesn't get one-shot and resisted by most of the stuff on Victory Road.

I just finished my first play through of Emerald and this was my final team. I'm pretty happy with it, especially since I had never used any of these mons and was really just experimenting. Flygon is now one of my best bros.

Here's mine. Currently in the market for a 5th mon. Maybe an Eeveelution? Kind of looking for a DEF/SPDEF based mon with decent offensive capability because who wants to fucking stall-win in-game?

Eh, I'm not a total genwunner. I do recognize my taste is affected by nostalgia goggles, but I just generally prefer Gen I pokemon over Gen II. Gen I has a lot of my favorites, like Golduck, Dragonite, and Alakazam, but much fewer Gen II Pokemon are really what I'd describe as favorites. I guess Donphan and Skarmory are pretty cool.

Gens after II have more Pokemon I'd consider favorites of mine, like Crawdaunt and Volcarona.

I do love Mamoswine, but the only Swinub available in the game were in Ice Path and about 9 levels below the rest of my party at the time I reached it. I simply couldn't be assed to level them up when I already had a team made up of a lot of my favorites or their pre-evolutions.
