I do seem to think that the english 'or' pronounciation of 'aw' translates nicely into the 'w', however. orrr... w. It's hard to replicate through text, but it rolls rather nicely off the tongue.
I fail to see how 'ah' retains any semblence of the 'w', however. This makes it a little harder for foreign countries to use American english as a bridge language, and thus most stick with british english.
There are a great number of American words that I prefer to british ones, though
