When (if ever) is it ok to refer to a particular pokemon as he/she? Is it ok if it's a specific one whose gender is known? Or if it's species is only one gender? Or is it never ok?

I think it's alright if it's a specific Pokemon on your team. To refer to the species as a certain gender strikes me as very odd, even if it's a single-gender species like Chansey.
Calling a whole group "she" is a tad weird.

I say "it" for almost every Pokemon, genderless and Pokemon who can be either male or female. I'd only say he or she when referring to Pokemon species that are 100% male or female like Tornadus and Kangaskhan, and even then I still might say "it" every now and then.

When referring to personal Pokemon, I'd say the right gender pronoun if applicable. Like, I'd catch a female Whimsicott, I'll say she. "Whimsicott was great against Clay, she had Giga Drain..."

I notice a lot of people here call feminine-looking Pokemon such as Braixen and Delphox 'she', even though the gender-ratio is only 12.5 for girls. Then again, they're quite obviously based on witches and shit who were stereotypically female.

I call nearly everything 'it' aside from my own Pokemon. I don't usually refer to animals and things as it, but I guess because the game and anime virtually always do with Pokemon it sorta rubbed off on me.

I only use gender when referring to my own Pokemon. So if I have a female Charizard, I refer to it as her because it has an in-game gender. Legendaries and other non-gender Pokemon are its.

I'm really specific about genders.
Certain things like Mawile and Weavile have to be female, and I'll refer to them as 'her'. I tend to use 'it' more often than not, though; unless it's a really bro Pokémon.
