Are kalos routes really that much smaller than in other games? They seem to be shorter, but is it just because we can move faster?

I'd blame 3D for the smaller routes, same with Unova's updated graphics. Why do you think there are gates everywhere? They aren't there to piss Hoennbabies off.

It is the largest region in terms of 'squares' the player can move into. Rollerskates just increase movement speed a lot compared to previous games. It seems the encounter rate is lower too.

If you contrast Lumiose City to routes, the scaling is so baffling different that the conclusion can be made that the routes are smaller. Even on foot with running, it doesn't take more than 5 minutes to get across one route.

Not being a Hoennbaby but in Emerald I kinda biked through most of Hoenn with the Mach Bike non-stop & it still felt huge.

In X/Y it's just route-gate-route-gate-FUCKING LUMIOSE CITY-gate-route...etc
But then again it's GF's first main series 3D game & they probably didn't want to expand Kalos too much because m-muh cartridge size.
