I just got it while dicking around in the maze forest or whatever. Got back to the center and suddenly my whole team had aids. Haven't even found a shiny yet even though it's supposed to be easy this game, but I get the rarer thing.

I had it once in gen 3 but didn't understand what it did

Only once, in Silver version.
I didn't have any idea of what it was and neither did any of my friends. The message Nurse Joy told me about it freaked me out, so I refused to play for a few days.

In Platinum and White 2, I've caught Pokérus.
Platinum's Pokérus was contracted a little before Victory Road, and White2's Pokérus was obtained while I was exploring the post-game areas.

Got it in Ruby and didn't know what it was, freaked out a bit. Recently got it in a Nuzlocke of White.

Considering it's apparently considerably rarer than a shiny Pokemon I'd have much rather gotten a couple of shinies, especially considering I only got into IV/EV shit in gen 6.

It is rare; for every wild or hatched Pokémon, there is a 1/21845 chance of it having Pokérus.
If it's wild, you have to either catch or defeat it to contract the virus.

I caught it in gen 5 entirely by accident, well before I'd even seen my first shiny.

I've played 100 hours at least in each game since Gen 1 and only got a shiny with Gen 6's borked shiny rate ; ;

I get it all the time over wonder trade now though, is it just that people are intentionally spreading it around or that wonder trade sometimes gives the pokemon pokerus?

I got one on a Ruby cartridge when I was like, 8.

I panicked and I thought my Pokemon had some sort of fucking disease or something and I kept trying to make the pokerus go away through various means.

It was pretty scary at the time.

In gen IV Diamond, I was training my Lucario to level 100 (I was still a casual) at the desert area and when I got back to the Pokemon Center Nurse Joy told me my Pokemon had Pokerus but since I just kept pressing A like everybody does I didn't read the whole thing.

So I asked my friend and Pokemon sensei it makes my Pokemon stronger.

This. Kids don't understand it and it scares them. I remember back during Gen 2 when pokemon knowledge was still dominated by rumors and fake shit like "beat the elite 4 a million times and you'll get a special message saying HURR DURR SPECIAL NEW POKEYMANS INCOMING PIKABLU CONGRATS" and other ridiculous stories.

In those days, when you show up at a pokemon center and randomly get a message that none of your friends had ever seen before (because 1/20,000 chance or some bullshit), it was weird and exciting and unbelievable and a little frightening.
