The third game in a generation (like Crystal, Platinum, Emerald, and the Japanese Blue) are generally just improvements on the other two with features of both mixed in and sometimes a little bonus content like the Suicine content in crystal and the Battle Frontier in Emerald.

it's incredibly frightening how most people dont know that the stones on the japanese titles have an alpha/omega symbol in them and that the stones are in the same location as the mega evolution symbol on xy's titles
