GF is not very clever so there are a few more differences between FR and LG besides the obvious. This makes it a little bit more difficult to put shit into the game since the hacking community chose to make all their tools for FR with LG as an afterthought.

Circled a spot in red. That looked off to me Having a slope right in front of a stair like that just looks wrong.

I'm sure you'll be adding a few NPCs and items/hidden items around town to make it look a little less dead.

Could maybe use a signpost on the grassy surface leading up to the mountain telling you directions.

Is there a hack of HG/SS where the only thing changed is trainer levels/rosters? I don't want a hack with all Pokémon catchable, just the changed trainer levels.

I feel it looks a lot better and more lively already. I've got a few more suggestions though.

The area marked in red seems to be a big empty space with no real purpose at the moment. You could maybe move the bug catcher guy over there.

I'm guessing you don't want people to access the cave up there, but if you ever want a shortcut in you could but a Rock Smash block in the orange spot to have alternative entry.

The ledge by the stair looks a lot better, but still a little awkward, if you rotated it so it was vertical instead of horizontal it would make more sense with the elevation.

I feel you've got something going with the cuttable tree there. You could hide something useful like a TM behind that house to reward people for travelling with their cut-slave.

I think you could add and additional cut tree in the red spot to reward them with a shorter route if they ever want to cut through the area faster.

The orange spot looks a bit empty and pointless. Are berries available in the game? Perhaps you could put a little patch of them down in the corner?

You've got a nice shape going for it, but marked in red are some ugly tile transitions in my opinions. They look choppy and patched together, see if you can find tiles that merge together a little better.

On the beach with the blue circle you could put a couple of rocks. Some fishermen NPCs seem like they would fit along the shore.

The purple spots are what I would consider prime item locations. If you remove some of the trees behind the right hill you could add a little pathway behind it that leads to an item.

To clarify... I'm thinking of just removing the treeline between the swamp and forest... It looks weird and it's supposed to be an open map.

Besides that, the swamp layout itself is going to need more detail. More small puddles, islands, peninsulas, etc. I wish there were transition tiles to deeper water but I guess having to do without adds to the challenge of making a good looking map.

Finally, I think I'll move the building to another block left of the current swamp block, and replace it with an abandoned church with a swampy graveyard. I'm not quite sure yet how I'm going to build that church, I may have to import some blocks/tiles from the pewter set (museum looks ideal) into the safari one.

Fixed some things of Yet Another Fire Red Hack becase the creator is a massive faggot and doesn't want to do it himself.

>-Fixed Torchic's second ability, now its Speed Boost instead of Hyper Cutter.
>-Serperior can now learn TM 26 Earthquake.
>-Changed Snivy's second ability, now its Shed Skin instead of Limber.
>-Hippowdon's dex entry now says "Sand Stream" instead of "Sand Steam".

Once i learn a bit more about editing the games im planing to do a hack of Emerald similar to this one, with all the Hoenn pokemon+some Gen 4 and 5 pokemon, with the physical/special split, updated moves and movesets (example: Close Combat, Hammer Arm etc) and day/night cycle added if possible.

Please ignore my username, i know it's retarded but i have it since 2006 and all my accounts have the same name because its easy to remember.

The only way to make a rom hack hard is by giving the trainers extremely strong pokemon. Not just over leveled. I mean level 100 pokemon with high base stats. If the average pokemon sits between 500-550, the trainers/gym leaders would need to have pokemon with 700-800 base stats. Its the only way.

I used them for my project, wichu's sprite editor has a really nice "import all" function that allows you to change everything in one go.

Also, I'm thinking of an idea for my FR hack: It'll be basically revamped kanto, with gen I to III pokémon, and I'll make HMs optional; however, in a lot of routes, there'll be hidden spots that can only be accessed with HMs where you can catch gen IV pokémon. How does that sound?

FYI he did that on purpose to the best of my knowledge. Let's be honest, in any game Torchic is fucking broke using Speed Boost.

I'm glad someone got up and fixed Sand Stream though, that was so annoying I fixed it on my own copy.

Now if only someone can un-break the shift mode because I'm such a casual...

My one comment is the transition from dirt to pavement on the north side of the town. (Is that how it's done in game?) It looks really awkward to me. maybe extend the pavement to the stairs. I'm making a FireRed ROMhack that replaces the pokemon with Robopons. Right now I'm using the GBC sprites and the backsprite is just the frontsprite mirrored.
So far I put in all the Robopons, gave them stats and Pokedex entries. I didn't give them all new movesets though.
I'm also working on changing the types and creating a whole new region. I fear I'm biting off more than I can chew though.

I have inserted all the Robopons from GBC version into the FireRed ROM, but I haven't finished giving them movesets. Also I haven't made icons or backsprites yet. The backsprites are just the frontsprites flipped.

I plan to introduce new types like Cyber, Virus, Junk, and Sound.

I'm doing this all on my own so I may be biting off more than I can chew. If I don't look for help I'll have to learn scripting as well as make new sprites for all the Robopons.

You can't make temporary megas unless you do it in rpgmaker, but then you wouldn't really be able to call your game a romhack. Permanent mega evolution is possible; just add their mega forms as new mons, give them the required data to work, and you're set.

I had to wrestle with Wichu's editor a bit because it syncronized a bunch of palettes a little wrong, but it's totally possible.

There still aren't very many in general.

I like minimal hacks but every single one outside of Crystal Emu Edition seems to be Gen 3. Not complaining about that, but since GTS is cut off there seems to be a need for a hack which at least enables you to get all the Pokemon offered in that specific game in Gen IV-V without trading or anything.

I should probably say Region. Just write down what differs in Pokemon between say, all three Shinnoh games for example and enable all the Pokemon in it along with correcting the "impossible" evolutions. It would be even less work than say, Emerald Complete Hoenn Dex Edition was, but hell why not?

Generation 4, 5 and 6 Pokémon that would otherwise be unavailable in Kanto due to the wild rates staying the same in easy-to-access grass patches. There will be more similar hidden areas to find wild Pokémon which will also be used to find Generation 4, 5 and 6 Pokémon.

As for that patch of tall grass in particular, I am probably going to place urban Pokémon such as Lillipup or Patrat there, to fit the style of Viridian City.

That's not a bad idea, but I would rather have it somewhat related to the type, which is where I'm having difficulties.

If I were to not go with any Flying-type-related theme, though, I've got a concept for a "race" type of thing where there are multiple, multi-path mazes that, if you take too many steps to get through, will be blocked off by a trainer which you have to battle to pass. If you manage to get through in the least amount of steps possible, however, you can pass without battling.

The main problem with that is limiting visibility of the maze, which would either mean making it fuckhuge or enabling flash, which would again be thematically... iffy.

maybe some kind of 2-level gym with holes in the ground that you fall through? down level would be earth, with flying type grounded (most of the time) pokémon like doduo and shit, and upper level would be the sky. You'd have to make your way through both levels to get to the gym leader.

I'm currently playing Glazed, it's wonderful. The most fun I've had with a Pokemon game for a long time.

It has a shitload of field moves though, like Fury Cutter for cutting bamboo or Dig for pic related. A little annoying, but what's the worst is the necessity for Rock Smash freaking everywhere.

Which leads me to my request. Any and all hack-makers here:

Please. Please change Rock Smash's base power to at least 60-70 so that it won't be an even worse waste of a move slot than Flash.

Honestly I wish they'd work more like in Ranger or something. A pokemon has claws? Once you have the right badge you can make it Cut without making it learn the dumbass move.

Or maybe make it so that more moves have the same field effect. For Cut: Slash, Night Slash, Steel Wing, Dragon Claw, Fury Cutter etc.

Too bad it won't happen.
