When you play a Pokemon game, how do you think about the passage of time? Do you imagine the "pokemon journey" happens over the course of a few days, weeks, months, or years?
I know in Gen V there are seasons, and since Gen II days and nights...
I've always been inclined towards a longer passage of time, like raising a pokemon from an egg to it's fully evolved form might happen over the course of a year. I'm doing a playthrough of Sacred Silver right now, and thinking it's a few days travel between towns, a week or so in each town (depending on how much there is to do there. I've probably been in Goldenrod a few days already). Every-time I heal at a Pokecenter it counts as having stayed the night there.
