I wouldn't get surprised if they didn't though.

However, thinking about it better, the game may be in the beta stage so making a full Birch model and using a custom background may be a bit too much for some testing.

Or they can be horribly done fakes.

interesting, but probably just pictures they made. Why would Birch use the exact same old Sugimori artwork?

I would think they'd redraw all the Pokemon/NPCs to make the style closer to the new ones. All of them look extremely dated now.

It's not a fully mirrored background, the shadows are different.

That said, no way in hell this is real. This part will most likely be in full 3D, since it's one of the few things in XY that were in 3D.
