It's not a tm in XY so if you want a Kalos bred gengar for official competitions, it's sludge bomb or nothing. It would be stupid to run sludge bomb on showdown though

Being that the most popular Aegislash right now is 252 SpA, and Flash Cannon is somewhat redundant with Sacred Sword, AND Landorus is one of the biggest threats to Aegislash, you'll see HP Ice occasionally when they aren't running Flash Cannon instead.

The difference between bomb and wave is 30% poison chance vs 5 more bp and hits Chesnaught.

In any meta that allows Sludge Wave Gengar it's generally the better choice.

The 5BP is neglectable, which means you either get 20% more to poison or being able to beat Chesnaught. Most people pick bomb because the niche isn't worth it.

More power on something as frail as Gengar is hardly negligible, Plus poison sucks as a status.
