Pretty fucking early on she's devoted as hell and sacrifices herself to save her partner, as well as being compassionate and understanding enough to see what was going on with Impmon and to save him.
And Impmon has jackshit to do with any misunderstandings, he was abused by his partners, ran away and because of that couldn't evolve.
Everyone around him grew stronger while he's alone, jealous and pathetic.
Worst of all he is self aware enough that he actually knows this, breaking down and becoming suicidal trying to fight that horse deva.
Then he quite literally sells his soul and has to kill the only people that were nice to him and they fucking forgive him for it.
There are no misunderstandings, it is quite clear what everyone is doing and why.
Guilmon is literally a babby with dangerous as fuck animal instincts who has pretty much everything to learn about the environment around him, he grows quite a bit from his childishness after a while.
I mean I understand not liking him, but holy fuck he's there to introduce the audience to the whole concept and at the end he becomes a literal shining knight.
