For instance, Gardevoir's mega-evolution is clearly based off of a wedding dress. It would probably be very jarring if the Pokemon on my team wearing a wedding dress were male, so I might try to breed for a female in that circumstance.
Gender does affect how I nickname my Pokemon, so there's that, but that's only the natural thing to do.
If you plan on using attract or cute charm in competitive play, you might also want to consider a female Pokemon, given as most of the "meta" Pokemon come with higher ratios of male eggs than female eggs.
