It was the fastest starter before smogon frog. Now that it resists spore/grass type effect moves and twave, it can't be slowed down. Also, it gives it a sp.atk boost (no doubt hinting that it'll be a special attacker)

Seaking with lightning rod has caused me to win a couple fights because people thought, "LOL WATER TYPE" and ended up just wasting turns while they tasted Waterfall, yes, Waterfall.

Even if it doesn't have the greatest special movepool, it pretty much has all it needs in Leaf Storm, Dragon Pulse, Focus Miss, and HP for coverage. If I run a Mega Sceptile, I would probably run HP Rock to hit most of its relevant counters and if it gets the lightning rod boost... Let's just say that Smogonbird, M-Pinsir, and Thundy would have bad days ahead of them and this is with just base 105 sp attack which likely is gonna get boosted by a mega.

Really makes you wonder what the fuck they're thinking sometimes. Why do all grass types have such shit movepools? It's the thing killing a lot of them that would otherwise be decent like Liligant and Sceptile.

i agree, people are downplaying the fact that dragon stab eliminates a lot of the need for coverage that old mono grass sceptile needed.

also, lightning rod is still pretty solid even if it 4x resists electric. it gives thunder wave immunity, prevents volt switchers from switching out, and the special attack boost is nice too.

What if Sceptile gets a better special movepool, then they buff its Spd by 20 points and the remaining 80 goes into both of its offensive stats equally.

It would be a mix of the unpredictability of Mega Lucario and the sweeping potential of Megazard X (assuming physical movepool and Swords Dance, 140 base speed is fucking fast).

This is assuming that Sceptile is already Mega evolved and M-Manectric has to switch in. If Sceptile has to switch in Manectric kills. And Sceptile only needs a 15 point boost in speed to speed tie with M-Manectric which most likely it will get more than 15 points in speed.

Pine trees are generally the tallest trees around, and get struck by lightning regularly during storms.

Not every Pokemon has to have competitively-viable abilities and moves. It helps of course, but sometimes Gamefreak just picks things that add to the overall flavour.

It really sucks that Sceptile can't learn the best Grass move (Wood Hammer). I mean yeah his Sp. Attack is higher but he's really a mixed sweeper if anything. Solarbeam has its obvious downsides, Leaf Storm forces you to switch out, and lolFrenzyPlant.

Leaf Blade's a solid move, but it'd be nice to have an alternate to Leaf Storm for a power move.
