I've always liked the more vivid colors for pokemon, Crystal looked really nice for that reason. Glad to see it being like this now.

I don't see why people are complaining. It's not finished gameplay and Hoenn had a lot of scenery/settings/geography/whateverthefuckdetail than Kalos, I think.

Volcano place and surrounding paths, the desert, treehouse city...

I think crystal and to a lesser extent ruby being oversaturated kind of had an appeal too. Subtle undersaturation does too, though, IMO.
