I have lots of Psyduck things. I have a Pez dispenser, a Might Bean, the Burger King toy, the keychain in pokeball, the original mini figure set with Golduck and master ball, the tech deck fingerboard, the clear bouncyball with psyduck inside, the remote control Psyduck, a motion sensing statue that quacks and moves around when you walk by, a coffee mug, the Beckett promo card, even considering getting a tattoo. The rarest bit is probably the Hanada city pin set from the opening of the first Pokemon Center in Japan with a misty pin, Cascade badge, and a Psyduck pin. I also have a Psyduck colored ballcap with the beak for a bill and three hairs standing on top. I LOVE PSYDUCK

>>19574829 I'm assuming you have a 3D printer, just wondering how fine detail turns out?

Also you got me feeling like painting, but none of my paints are here...
Anonymous
>>19563720 How much do these cost you to make, roughly?
As in both materials and the amount of time to design them.
I'd be seriously interested in buying some.
Anonymous
>>19574936 Yes, I own a couple 3d printers. I run a small business with them. The quality depends on the printer. All of my machines are FDM machines. This means it deposits a layer of molten plastic layer after layer to build up a model. It's also the lowest quality out of the all of the types of 3d printers, but the technology has advanced to the point that you can get really high detailed prints with them. Don't forget, that figure is 3.5" tall. The arms are only 3/4" x 1/8" at some parts. The lines in the 'hair' were also printed into the model to give you an idea of what it can do.
The cost of material isn't bad at all. Name-brand plastic runs around $40 for a 2lbs. spool. That spool will last a LONG time unless you use it for business purposes like I do.
If you feel like painting, leave an e-mail to get in contact with. Seriously, I'm trying to find somebody skilled to collaborate with. My main thing is that the paint is applied evenly, no brush strokes, and a satin-smooth finish. If you think you're capable of that, don't hesitate to get in touch.
>>19575014 They cost around $3 in plastic, but take up around six hours of my printer's time. It also takes around a day or work to smooth out the models and get them primed. Really, the cost is determined more by how much my time is worth than the materials used.
Designing figure in this style is surprising easy (unless the subject is super complex), if that's what you're asking. If I didn't work the equivalent of two full time jobs, I could pump one out in a single sitting.
I am honestly looking into buying a plastic injection kit. They sell one that hooks up to an industrial drill press for around $600. If I take the lunge, I could make injection molds and make them for pennies on the dollar. If I ever do that, I'll let /vp/ know... although I'd have to be careful not to get Nintendo'd like so many other people have been.

>>19575811 I guess more specifically, I'm asking, what would you charge if people wanted to buy the figures?
Obviously they can't be anywhere near $3 when there's all that time put in. But would additional Gardevoirs still be cheaper than mons that haven't had their computer models built yet? etc.
Anonymous
>>19575811 That is cool as fuck, anon
That's the kind of stuff I'd be willing to make a career out of
Though I don't have much experience with paints yet and you probably wouldn't be willing to send one all the way out here to get a shitty one back
Maybe by the time I find you again I'll have had time to practice
Anonymous
>>19575939 I'll add you today or tomorrow sometime. The machine I'm on now doesn't have Skype installed.
>>19576093 Right now, they'd be crazy expensive because of how labor-intensive the creation process is. I'd reckon around $80-$100 for one, and even then I'm working for cheap. I spend most of my time running a business and freelancing as a 3d artist. Right now, this is just a hobby for me. If I ever go ahead with my injection molding idea, I could do it for much, MUCH cheaper. Honestly, I might end up doing just that. I enjoy designing and making my own trinkets.

I bought some Pokemon figures from YesAsia because HLJ had their orders stopped and AmiAmi didn't carry them. They're ones that were just released last week. http://b9creator.com/faqs/how-big-is-the-build-volume/ There are DIY models that you can build for less, but the type of projector required is very critical as it must produce UV light en mass.

I've considered getting an SLA printer for my hobby. However, the price of a quality machine is actually pretty close to that of a decent CNC mill. I was also considering making solid aluminum molds and using those if I go the route of a plastic injection molding. I kind of have a small work shop and am basically looking for an excuse to get a CNC machine, haha!
Bah, I'm getting slightly ahead of myself. My FDM can extrude down to 100 microns which is a huge difference from 6, and I admit it takes a bit of work to get the model smooth. However, with enough grunt work, I can get a glassy smooth surface. That's how my figure was before I botched it up with the paint job!
I don't have any Gardevoir cards, and feel like I should start collecting those as well. Should I be weary of bootlegs or anything if I'm buying from Ebay/Amazon? Do bootlegs still even exists for the TCG?

Just an idea, but for pokemon, wouldnt it be easier to find a way to do some parts with already colored resin/plastic/rubber? For example, make gardevoir's "hair" a different piece already made by blue/green, and stick to the head wich is already white, leaving only details such as the eye to be hand painted...
I have a
applejack figurine that is like this, its made of full orange plastic, only details painted, and hair made of yellow palstic, that was glued on the main orange body

The nice thing about injection molding is there are nearly limitless and exact colors to choose from. You're correct in saying I wouldn't have to worry about painting then.
Can I get a show of hands. How many people would want to buy one of my Gardevoir figures if I put a small batch up for sale? >>19591378 Yeah, I noticed! I'm really impressed with your collection. I'm trying to get all of the good Ralts-line merchandise. My grail is a boxed Gardevoir Tomy and Kirlia Tomy, but I still have to get cards as well. I'll definitely check out Troll and Toad.
I wish I had a workshop with every manufacturing tool imaginable in it. All sorts of different 3d printers, a 4-axis CNC machine (although I'd only need 3-axis to do molds for injection molding), a stamping machine... I should have been an engineer.
At any rate, you make some valid points. I'm torn between a few options. Option 1 is get DLP printer for the reason you said. The only downside is finding a suitable resin for all of the thin parts once I have the master molded. If I did lost-wax casting, what material would I use? Just curious. Option 2 is I invest in the injection molding machine, make some molds with a special epoxy and aluminum mold box, and create a small run that way. Option 3 is I spend way too much money on a CNC machine and an injection molding machine, haha. Option 4 is I send a protoype to some factory in China, they produce them for pennies, and I have hundreds of mini Gardevoirs.
Seriously though, I would like to know if there's a real interest in these. I'd make a small run and purchase the injection molding machine if I knew I could get my investment back. Plus, then I could do various other Pokemon and figure in the future and I'd already have the equipment to produce them in small batches.

Sadly, I do not have enough experience with UV curing resins to know how well they will stand up to the things you ask of it. But hey, at least they can't get any worse than Games Workshop's stuff. Personally, though, if I had your dream workshop, the stuff I would make would require a license to sell. Forget toys.
Avoid the Chinese route. Personally, if you know what you are doing with the casting of the molds for the injection mold machine, I would go that route and save up for either a DLP printer or CNC machine later.
And trust me, people will buy your gardevoir figurines. Just don't expect them to fly off like hot cakes.

>>19592887 Okay, let me try to explain.
You get these little beads with holes in them. There are various 'plates' to arrange them on with pegs for the holes to fit into. You arrange the beads how you like them on the plate. When you're satisfied, you put a piece of wax paper over the beads, heat up a clothe iron, and press down on the wax paper. The heat is transferred through, melts the beads just a little so they fuse together, and that's about it. Wait for it to cool, remove the paper, and remove from the build platform.
You know how plastic pixel art.

Calm_Gardevoir !ohBaXKSpsE
>>19592980 Vulcanization is the process of tempering rubber. Heating it makes it melt, shrink, and harden. The rubber perla beads are kinda flexible until you heat them with the iron. They vulcanize and become hard after cooling down.
Anonymous

The wax paper is used just so that the plastic doesn't stick to the iron, right?
How long do you have to do this for?
Calm_Gardevoir !ohBaXKSpsE
>>19593094 However long as you like. Do it too long, though, and it smears and can damage the peg board. And yes, the wax paper acts as a physical buffer. If you put those beads on a hot iron, it will melt, stick, then burn onto the iron itself. The wax paper prevents that.

Anonymous
>>19593308 Oh so these are plastic too. I thought for some reason that the "plates" were made of iron too.
So the "plate" won't melt?
Does it come with the beads?
Also, aren't these a bit small?
Calm_Gardevoir !ohBaXKSpsE
>>19593339 There are locking, jigsaw like plates that you can stack out as many as you would like or need. And the beads are small. I use a Revlon needle nose makeup/beauty tweezers to place the beads into the pegs because unless you are two, those things are hard to place without upsetting other beads without a special tool.
Anonymous
>>19593339 No, you put a piece of paper between the plate and the iron, so the top of the beads melt together without touching the iron.
You can buy these at most hobby stores if I remember correctly. Maybe even toy stores. They usually have large clear plates, so you can put a sprite mage underneath or something.

It's very tedious, very time consuming.

Actually, I'm Gardevoir on Rizon. I usually hang out in #/k/ of all places. Don't trust most of them, half of them love to joke about me, because that is where I actually attention whore.
I prefer Skype.

Let me know when you get it. I'll keep in touch!

Pic related. It's a poster from an unknown girl's magazine that I bought off a friend. It hangs near my bed.

Got this not too long ago, also have some cards most of them are either Base Set/Base 2 or Emerald/Deoxys with some of the X/Y cards as I recently picked it up again.More of a YGO card person. Also have the D Arts MewTwo but didn't get the others as I felt the build quality was pretty awful compared to other figures I have.
