Pokémon Professors and Scientists all over the world are researching this; wondering why certain "starter" Pokemon are able to do so.

The Fire starter of Kanto and Hoenn have a seconds Mega Evolution. There are four more generations/regions... See where I'm going with this? The Water and Grass starter of the other regions will be given a second Mega Evolution as well... in due time (e.g. more research).

"Most of us" on the internet are working adults who could buy the game at launch and thus were able to get the Torchic and Blazikenite.

Most of the people actually playing the game are children who would have had to beg their parents for months to get the games, and were probably too late to get the Torchic.
