I'm wondering if the emeralds on Mega Sableye's back are a homage to the old game or a hint at an emerald remake.

If you think about it, doing Pokemon X2 and Y2 makes less sense than just doing Z, but Nintendo likes money so they might still want to do 2 games at once, thus Z and Emerald.
