All we need is the new Dragon Quest Monsters: joker and the improved Digimon game to come over to the west for the ultimate monster capture experience on 3DS.

We can compare different aspects of them to the Pokemon games to make it board related.

Never played any of them. Are they decent monster games? Monster games are my weakness but so many of them hit the mark. I couldn't get into Monster Rancher since they die, Digimon has hit or miss mechanics and has a history of not being localized, haven't played DQ Monsters since 2.

There was a Dinosaur King game on DS, but the gameplay was based on Rock paper Scissors.

I enjoyed it, but it's not the same other than the general " Capture Dinosaur to battle " theme.

I loved the setup, there are three spaces for your Dinos, two in the back and one in front.

All three can attack, but only the front Dino gets full attack, the ones in the back are reduced.

The main purpose of two in the back is to buff the front in Speed, power, accuracy, and a load of special affects like giving more attack points or regenerating their health.

I fucking loved it.

Also i love the digging mechanic in fossil fighters and spectrobes, i wish they could have something like Sinnoh underground: Reloaded in a future pokemon game(other than DPP remakes)

Champions was amazing, way better than BW1 that same year, and the first game was pretty great.

If Frontier is even just as good as the first, I'll be pleased. Wary though because of the focus on the buggy gimmick and that two of the devs on the first two didn't work on this one, instead Spike Chunsoft did. And I've heard RED might not have even actually worked on it either, but the only thing supporting that at all is Frontier isn't listed on their official site.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 was pretty good, and it even got localized... six months after the Professional version launched in Japan with like twice as many monsters and updated mechanics and shit. Even though the Western version of the game is an inferior release, it's still enjoyable and worth playing. Joker 1 was a bit too edgy for a DQM game, you can safely ignore it.
OP seems to have mis-identified Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland and Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Tara and Cobi's Marvelous Mysterious Key as part of the "Joker" subseries. They are, in fact, 3DS remakes of the first two Dragon Quest Monsters games. I have heard no word on whether or not they'll ever be localized; the first came out over two years ago in Japan. Hopefully Square Enix will come around and release these games in the West, they're basically the reason why I bought a 3DS in the first place and so far I've got nothing to show for it but disappointment.

To be fair Joker 2's localization was finished and went gold like three or four months ahead of release and it even got leaked and dumped at that point somehow. When the actual game came out, there was literally no difference between the retail version and the leak. Still no excuse for them to not do Pro since the devs inserting the text were working on it at the same time.

And the 3DS games are remakes, but don't they use a Joker-like engine?

It's broken a million copies sold two weeks ago and has consistently been in like the top five for sales in Japan ever since around January.

It's sales pattern is very similar to Red and Green back in their days. Alright first week, nothing too spectacular, drops off fairly quickly, and all of a sudden sometime later it's charting again and it's got fucking legs, which is rare for games, especially in Japan.

Yeah, Joker 2 really lessened the agony of grinding from Joker 1. The one advantage of the "vanilla" version is that Meddle Slimes still turn into Metal Slimes when you scout them, so you can recruit as many of them as you want without having to deal with the "duplicate monster" penalty to your scouting chances.

I'm still salty that DQMJ2:Pro was never localized, so I just went ahead and bought the jp version a couple years back.

Got most monsters and several boss fusions but didn't actually go for Corvus

Then the news broke about Wi-Fi being killed off so I went on a mad dash to collect Wi-Fi connection only monsters (like extra Captain Crows and that huge ass furry lion king boss) among other things and got Corvus.

I still will never get a full monster dex though, since several monsters rely on you 'streetpassing' like a 1000 other DQMJ2/Pro players to collect them.

But yeah, even when I was in Japan, I was late to the game so I only ever managed to 'streetpass' like a little less than 20, but at least that was enough for a couple monsters.

They never localize while developing so it takes them forever to do it later, not to mention most their games are text-heavy RPG's. And then if their stuff has any tie-in things like an anime, they won't localize it unless the whole package comes too.
