People do that because others complain about a pokemon based solely on criteria that apply to pokemon that already existed. Being based on an inanimate object, for example.

the key part was "this gen", a lot of new players don't seem to understand that Pokemon dropping tiers naturally in a new gen always happens, and it's pretty annoying

It's actually good if a Pokemon is in a lower tier. It gets to play with Pokemon in its own league instead of always being trampled by strong as fuck shit. You have Pokemon that aren't very good in OU but are great in UU (Hydreigon). Pokemon that aren't very good in UU but are amazing in RU (Delphox). Even NU has its kings, like Sawk and Durant (though Durant was banished to RU recently). If you really want to use a Pokemon in OU, there's nothing stopping you from using a lower tiered Pokemon.

Tiers are also decided via usage. Pokemon that AREN'T very good in a tier have been kept afloat in it for various reasons--see Donphan.

I know people can do what they want but its just when they're stubborn on using the same pokemon dozens of times and not giving anything new a try, it just sounds boring when you know what to expect from it all the time.

I mean, I run Smogon sets on nearly all of my favorite pokemon, and a lot of those are top OU material like Mawile and Pinsir.

I hope they lower the threshold for tiers by a little. It would hopefully bump up some of the top threats from UU and put them into a more balanced situation in OU, while at the same time bumping up some of the top threats in RU to UU, etc.
