Was it really that awful to shitstorm over though? I mean, TLA, Transformers, and TMNT all had source material that were shat on by those movies, but Battleship was a boardgame. Barring the stupid idea of making a movie of it in the first place, was it really THAT bad?

Yes. Aside from Rihanna, the main problem with the movie was just how stupid the aliens were. They are unable to properly assess danger, are useless in close combat, have armor as sturdy as cardboard, can have their helmets taken off by human hands with ease, completely lack spatial awareness, are dreadful at scouting, take way too long to launch missiles at oncoming ships...I don't even think that's the tip of the iceberg

There's Edge of Tomorrow which is based on All You Need Is Kill.

The film is okay, aside from the ending which was weak as hell.

I actually just saw Edge of Tomorrow a few hours ago. I thought it was pretty good.
Granted, I never read All You Need is Kill, so I don't know how it stacks up to the film.

You also forgot about the upcoming Spongebob and Sonic movies where they'll combine CGI with live-action. The Sonic one is actually by the makers of the Smurfs Movie.
