RSE had one, maybe two challenging battles, and that's if you're going in completely blind. The E4 is in no way challenging, because it's the fucking E4, and if you're going unprepared, you're nothing short of a moron.
If you want the games to be challenging, there's only one thing you can do : self-imposed rules, whatever they may be. And that's been true since fucking red and blue.
To prevent yourself from breezing through ORAS, which ARE going to be as easy as XY, just don't allow yourself any excessive grinding, turn the exp. share off, use the set battle style, don't use any healing items, and only use each pokémon center once.
