You are a 16 year old boy, Alex, who has just started his journey as a Pokemon Trainer. Shortly after picking Cyndaquil, you encounter a Pokemon Breeder by the name of Betty. Things happened and now she's tagging along with you for your journey. Then some stuff happened in Route 29, involving a massive volcano emerging from out of nowhere. Betty caught a supreme evil leader Bidoof with the Moody ability, while you ended up with a shit-talking Wurmple. In your possession now is the Golden Apricorn, which contains great powers that no one is really sure about. Following the suggestion of a doctor Spewpa, you are now headed to find Mr. Pokemon, who is said to know much more about this Golden Apricorn.

You wake up in a cheap motel in Cherrygrove. It's already bright outside, and you can already hear sounds of Fletchling chirping. You wipe the crust from your eyes and go to freshen up. You realise that Betty isn't in the room right now, but her bag is still there, meaning she hasn't ran off or anything.

Just as you begin to think about where she could have gone, the door to your room opens.

"Oh, good morning Alex. You're finally awake." Betty greets you.

"Good morning, Betty. Where have you been?"

Betty pulls out a Pokeball and waves it to you.

"I was just outside spending time with my Pokemon. Check this out, it appears that the Golden Apricorn 'deactivating' made my Bidoof lose the ability to talk."

The Golden Apricorn isn't glowing as brightly as it was back at Route 29. In fact, it isn't glowing at all, making it more mysterious, as well as necessary for you to seek help from Mr. Pokemon.

"Bidoof!" Bidoof cries out cheerfully as he's released from his Pokeball.

You sigh. "Well, that's unfortunate. You're the one Pokemon I would love to shut the hell up."

Ignoring Wurmple, you decide that it's time for you and Betty to finally head out. The first stop is the diner near the beach. You and Betty pack up your things and head towards the diner. Man, you're starved.

As you reach the diner, you notice a large crowd gathered at the beach.

"Wonder what's going on." you say.

"Come on, let's go check it out!" Betty tells you.

"What? But I'm so hu-"

"Come on, it will just be for a while."

You give in and go with Betty to find out what everyone's gawking at.

The muttering you hear in the crowd intrigues you. You push your way through the crowd with Betty in tow. As you barge your way to the front, you can see a boat in the water. A boat is nothing out of the ordinary, but what's special about it is that it's completely plated gold. You spot a boy doing some water skiing with the boat on a gold-plated motorcycle.

You're pretty sure that this should be physically impossible, but hey, money money money. Anything's possible with money.

You're too busy fantasizing about what you would do if you were as rich as that boy, when out of nowhere, he skids near the shore and drenches you in some nasty seawater. He hops off and wipes himself with a towel made out of Ursaring fur, before strolling away.

"Yes, I did buy them. I have the most carefully bred Pokemon, the best that money can buy. It's also going to make me the Champion of this crappy region. Now if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than associate with plebeians like you."

He did not just do that.

The rich kid simply just grunts, before walking off. You feel extremely embarrassed. You finally have your breakfast at the diner after the whole incident, but you can't help but feel like shit.

"Don't let him get to you, Alex. He doesn't know what he's talking about." Betty tries to cheer you up.

Fortunately, it works, and you try to forget the whole thing.

You register Joey into your Holo Caster. Holo Casters are all over the Pokemon univeres now. It's the best thing the French came up with since French fries. Are French fries even from France? You don't know, but you have a feeling you might regret giving your number to this crazy kid in the future.

You leave him to tend to his Rattata, as you and Betty continue on to find Mr. Pokemon's house. Betty. You've gone through all sorts of weird shit with her in the span of just a few days, but you still don't know a damn thing about her. Which is why you decide to ask her more about herself.

You get no response. Thinking that's a little rude, you turn to look at her. She's still walking, but you realise that she's zoned out. Her eyes stare across a thousand miles.

"Uh, Betty?"

"What? O-Oh, right. I came from the Sinnoh region."

"Cool, what town were you from?"

She hesitates to answer. "It's some really obscure place. There are probably some people in Sinnoh who don't even know about it. Anyway, it's not important."

You're about to ask some more questions, when you stumble upon a giant wooden fence. It's about a half times taller than you, and seems to be covering a large area. You spot a little hole in the fence and peek through. You manage to see a house on the inside.

"Hey, I think this is it. How do we get in though?"

Unfortunately, you don't 'got this'. You get your fingertips around the top of the fence, but you don't have the strength to pull yourself up. Your fingers finally give way as you fall to the ground with a loud THUD.

"Well that didn't work out." you say while wiping dirt off your bum. You're about to have another go at climbing the fence, when a sudden screeching rings out throughout the route.

"OOGA OOGA OOGA BOOGA BOOGA"

"Wha-What the hell is that?"

"OOGA BOOGA OOOGAAAA"

You look around to try and find the source of the screeching. Suddenly, you hear leaves rustle as someone jumps out of a tree.

"OOGA BOOOGAAAA"

"WHAT TH-"

A naked older gentleman pounces on top of you, knocking you to the ground while he starts clawing you.

"OOGA BOOGA BOOGA"

"OH GOD! BETTY, HELP ME!"

Getting over the initial shock, Betty gives a nice, hard kick to the man, knocking him backwards.

"Oooga? OOGA BOOGA!"

The man start hopping around on all fours, while waiting for a chance to strike you once more.

"Oh god, please, go away!" you plead.

Just as you thought he was going to jump on you, someone appears out of nowhere knocks the man out with a slap.

"Oh no, not you two again."

Not only did the naked man pounce and attack you, but that rich kid from earlier is his grandson. This day just keeps getting crazier, and crazier.

Now clothed, the man gets up and introduces himself.

"Hi there, sorry for causing you all that trouble. My name is Mr. Pokemon."

"It's cool. I'm Alex, and this is Betty. Mr. Pokemon sir, a Spewpa from Route 29 told me that you could tell me more about this."

You pull out the Golden Apricorn out of your bag and hand it to Mr. Pokemon.

"My, oh my. So I assume it was you who created that large volcano. Unfortunately my boy, my knowledge on the Apricorn is also rather limited. However, I do know that it is sort of a, 'good luck amplifier'."

"What does that mean specifically?" you ask.

"Well, for example, if you really want to win a battle, the Apricorn can use it's powers to make everything go in your favour in the battle. However, I heard that it can only work in the right hands, and in the right time."

"Sounds fascinating."

This Golden Apricorn sounds real promising. Heck, it sounds like it will work better than money-ing your way to the top like what'shisface.

"Say, Alex, give me some time to check out this Apricorn. In the meantime, why don't you have a battle with Richard over here while waiting."

"What? No way, I'm not battling against a noob like him."

"No need to be like that Richard. After all, entertaining guests is very important. Now go on you two."

Great. Now you can have the battle you wanted. All you need is to not get your ass kicked.

Mr. Pokemon is about to go do his things, then he stops to take a glance at you.

"Say Alex, you look like someone I know."

You decide that Cyndaquil would be a better match for Tyrunt than Wurmple. That, and he's your starter, so he's technically 'your man'.

"Cyndaquil, come on out!"

"Cyndaquil!" he growls, shooting fire out of his nose, showing he means business. Tyrunt might have some really good stats at this stage as well as the Rock type advantage, but Cyndaquil doesn't let that intimidate him.

"Tyrunt, Stomp!"

Tyrunt leaps above Cyndaquil and lands on him with a hard Stomp.

"Stomp again!"

"Ty-RUNT!"

Cyndaquil cries out in pain. Two successive Stomps dish out a lot of damage to him. He's hurt, but he can still fight as strongly as he normally does.

Cyndaquil goes underground in no time, too quick for Tyrunt and his Dragon Tail. Enraged that he had missed his target, Tyrunt starts jumping around and stamping his feet on the ground.

"Ty- TYRUNT!"

Cyndaquil's Dig scores a direct hit, dealing a decent amount of super effective damage. Tyrunt flies backwards, skidding on the ground before coming to a stop. He quickly picks himself up and growls ferociously.

"Tyrunt, TYRUUUNT!"

"Tyrunt, get a hold of yourself, use Bite!"

"Runt!"

Tyrunt races forward and takes a nice big chomp on Cyndaquil.

"Cyndaaaaa!"

Cyndaquil yells out in pain. As if a normal Bite doesn't hurt like hell already, this Bite is boosted by Strong Jaw. That attack already brings Cyndaquil to almost half his HP.

"Cyndaquil, hang in there! Shit." you say.

Tyrunt isn't letting go, so Cyndaquil is still trapped in its jaw. This, fortunately is pretty good for Cyndaquil. He's been in this position before, all you need is to break him out.

Cyndaquil looks like he's charging up with something. With a loud growl, he releases balls of energy, one of which Tyrunt swallows. Some mini explosions happen, knocking Tyrunt backwards, and freeing Cyndaquil from his jaw. Judging by how strong it was, the Hidden Power must be super effective. You hope that it's something like a Fighting Hidden Power, and not some shit-tier type like Steel.

"What a surprise, lucky you. Remember what I said earlier at the beach, about having the best bred Pokemon? Well now you get to experience it first hand. Tyrunt, Rock Tomb."

Well shit. Things just get more and more difficult. Enormous rocks begin falling from the sky, threatening to crush Cyndaquil's puny body.

"Oh god oh god, Cyndaquil dodge ALL OF THEM!" you instruct.

Cyndaquil tries his best to evade the Rock Tomb, but eventually he gets struck by one of the rocks, dealing super effective damage to him.

"Cyn...da."

Cyndaquil doesn't have much left in him. You're going to have to beat that Tyrunt pretty soon, or it will be all over for you.

With all his strength, Cyndaquil delivers two really adorable kicks to the back for Tyrunt's head. Fortunately, the Double Kick is as powerful as it is adorbale.

Tyrunt flies forward and face-first into the ground, sliding all the way to your feet. Unfortunately, that doesn't quite knock it out, but it does bring it to pretty low health.

"Tyrunt, Bite again!"

He's doing it again. Tyrunt immediately jumps up and surges towards Cyndaquil, with his jaw wide open. You're not sure if Cyndaquil can take another Strong Jaw Bite.

The Rock Polish boost makes Tyrunt outspeed Cyndaquil comfortably. It chomps on Cyndaquil once more, making him howl in agony.

Cyndaquil squirms and struggles to get off the Double Kick, but the way he is trapped inside that dino jaw prevents him from doing any sort of kicking. It seems like there is nothing much left that can be done to salvage a victory.

>Cyndaquil's Blaze was activated!

The flame on Cyndaquil's back blazes at maximum strength, with the fire burning away at Tyrunt's face. Tyrunt releases Cyndaquil due to its face being scorched off. It's too busy stomping and running about to notice that it's now an open target to Cyndaquil.

Using all the pain he has endured in the battle, Cyndaquil builds up power inside of him. His eyes turn blue. Tyrunt starts to realise what Cyndaquil wants to do, but by then, it's already too late.

Cyndaquil leaps towards Tyrunt, and uppercuts the jaw that caused him so much suffering in the battle. A deafening explosion echoes as the Reversal hits. Smoke forms and covers the two Pokemon.

As the smoke subsides, the victor of the battle is clear.

"Cyn....da."

You look up at Richard, expecting a shocked or embarrassed expression on his face. Instead, you see neither.

"Hmph. Tyrunt, return. That was highly disappointing."

"Ty...."

"More rigorous training is needed if you want to stay."

On the other side, you're dancing with Cyndaquil, giving him a high five and hugging him and all.

"Cyndaquil, that was so amazing."

Your celebrations stop momentarily as Richard approaches you.

"That was a good battle by you. But don't think you're better or stronger than me. Once I get my full team delivered, you'll be nothing but a speck of dust in terms of how strong you are compared to me."

I don't think there's anything wrong with the chapters being a bit short but maybe you should have a set day that you do these.

I know what the other anon said but honestly the only problem I have (and it isn't really a complaint) is that writing style reminds me a lot of Nate (albeit briefer) so it is a bit odd following both stories concurrently.

Your writing style is somewhat similar to Nate's with the random things that happen. But Nate's style is a good thing. If anything, I'd take it as a compliment. The only problem I have with this is the length and detail. Sure, it's early on so nothing too emotional can be brought in, but with longer sections and more detail, you can help engage the reader and get more responses in general. I recommend looking at some of Nate's CYOAs for reference. You seem to be adamant about having your own style, so I'm sure you'll put your own twist on it and not directly copy him.
