What would happen is that, the champion's gender would normally be random and use their "canon" names (Calem or Serena), but if you use this Memory Link-like feature, the champion's name will change to what your character's name in X/Y's team is, and if you beat the game in X/Y, the champion's team would be the same as your current team in X/Y, except that they are all set to a certain level.
