So why didn't Gamefreak just give us straight up Fighting, Dark, and Psychic starters in Gen 6 instead of half-assing it by making them secondary types?

Fighting, Dark and Psychic aren't the same as Fire, Water and Grass as Dark is immune to Psychic. Also it's a tradition.
