Well, you can get a Azumarill and run Superpower. It also gets a boost on Aqua Jet if Drizzle is set.

I notice a lack of physical attackers in your team, so special walls might be a concern.

the only time I've seen meowstics run timid is when they want to outspeed something's priority. I saw a set on NG that outsped his own kanga's sucker punch, so he could safeguard turn 1 and then swagger his kanga before its sucker punches on turn 2

otherwise use bold or calm or something. Doesn't hurt to put a point or two in to outspeed other meowstics though

Yeah, I guess I could switch out Kingdra for Azumarill, give Leftovers to Rotom W, give Life Orb to Conk, and give Sitrus Berry to Azu. It wouldn't hurt either because Ludicolo and M-Manectric are fast enough to outspeed most threats, with Ludi covering what M-Manectric can't. And Azu would be the only one with an Electric weakness.

I'm a little nervous going into this. Had one substitution last night when I realized Lightning Rod prevented me from using Electrify. The replacement is a lot better than the mon I replaced (Garchomp > Rhydon), but I haven't tested this iteration of the team at all. I think I'll do all right, since Lum Garchomp helps me out considerably with things like Khan Artist, but it may take me a few games to get the team really going.

Salamence is legal, it's part of the Kalos Mountain dex, it's actually a pretty important check in most teams thanks to Intimidate vs most physical mons and fire users.

It's not Salamence, he's a Kalosmon. It's Whimsicott. Check on Bulbapedia.

I like Espeon as a support mon for screens and an instant win against Dark Void.

You do realize Machamp basically dies in one turn to Khan right on top of being slower and vulnerable to just about every single Khan partner ever?

If I went down that path Inner Focus Mienshao would be more effective outspeeding both of those. The problem was the team I'm testing out was a Trick Room team and Gen 6 isn't kind to it. Just means I have to re-organize.

Normally I wouldn't use Espeon, but the fact that it completely shuts down Dark Void teams won the day for me.

Then the discovery that I can EV it to survive Life Orb Talonflame's Brave Bird, outspeed Garchomp and Kangaskahn and set up screens that last eight turns made up my mind for me.

Sylveon actually isn't half bad if only because there is a severe lack of good special attacking Fairies in this meta and Shadowball + Fairy is perfect coverage. Plus it has Helping Hand for a last ditch sendoff before it dies.

It resists Normal-type moves and I EV it for bulk. If it hits Kangaskahn it'll do more than half damage and confuse it. Confusion means that his attacks are useful even when burned.

It has Wide Guard so it can stop Garchomp killing my Charizard Y (it'll also save you from MZY's Heat Wave) and Quick Guard to stop Talonflame in its tracks.

I used Mienshao for a while, but she never quite did it for me.

I have bad news for you...

Also Mienshao doesn't have to do that Quick Guard/Wide Guard shit, it just simply outspeeds and kills with High Jump Kick or Rock Slide outright. Inner Focus ensures that Focus Sash is never wasted by a timely Fake Out as well.

You can't have more than 1 of the same item.

Knock Off isn't that good in Doubles, or any Nintendo format for that matter (most Pokemon learn it via tutor in BW2, so it's not like you can use it anyway).

Milotic and Amoonguss aren't legal.

Sorry pal, but your team is beyond fixing. I suggest you start a new one from scratch. Go to Nugget Bridge (they specialize in Doubles) and ask them for some ideas.

I'm just using this as my last real practice opportunity before Worlds, since I can't go to US Nats. I'll probably run a completely different team regardless, but at least the practice will come in handy and I can see what higher level players will be using.

I'll be running Politoed/Ludicolo/Staraptor/Mawile/Garchomp/Heliolisk. Kind of a "fun" team rather than a "good" one but if I can equal or better the 1702 I got last time I'll be happy.

I don't think there will be another WiFi tournament, but if you plan on going to a Premiere Challenge or Nats or Worlds, I'd keep at it. Fall Regionals will most likely be VGC 2014 as well.

Goodra might work, but it doesn't provide me with a valuable Ground resist like Hydreigon does.

Mega Ampharos really needs Trick Room to be viable, otherwise every other Dragon in the meta wrecks him before he can make a move. Not to mention he takes a valuable Mega slot and can't safely switch into Hydro Pump before the Mega Evolution.

Looks solid, though I personally don't find Talonflame to be very viable in the current meta. Way too many things work against him nowadays (Rocky Helmet everything, Rough Skin/Iron Barbs, Intimidate, M-Manectric, Rotom-W, Tyranitar and so on and so on).

Lately I was testing Overheat Talonflame on Showdown to see how it would work, and it does get a clean OHKO on shit like Mega Mawile and Ferrothorn without having to worry about Intimidate or killing itself in the process. That move would require you to run a Naughty nature though.

I'm mostly using it as part utility and part revenge killing. I needed some fire coverage and flying coverage and also a fast taunt and talonlame fit the bill

You're gonna get seriously wrecked by Fairies and you have at least one member (Terrakion) you need utterly replacing. Also CM Reuniclus does not work in VGC, M-Khan alone will 2HKO it.

Big words of advice to those unfamiliar whilst there is still time to prepare since I'm seeing the same mistakes.

-Fucking check your team members are on this list to be legal for this tournament

-Over the 3 days of the tournament you can battle 20 times a day. If you don't battle at all on the first day your 20 match limit will carry over so you can do 40 matches in day 2. If you're not ready yet then you still have 48 hours.

-If you do well and your rating goes above 1700+ then you don't have to use all your matches in case you're afraid you will go on a losing streak.

I agree with this, but I'd change 1700+ to 1750+

And yeah 1750+ is probably a safer rating, I think traditionally the winners top cut tend to be the 1750-1800 point region anyway.

Please don't just randomly echo this crap, take a look at Meowstics defensive stats and you'll find they're actually pretty respectable. Easily capable of surviving even STAB Super Effective attacks of 125-130 base offenses on either side.

It is, but other than a few practice matches this is the first time since very briefly in 2013 that I've used Staraptor.

Also I'm 15-5, think I'm at 1625ish rating. Garchomp has definitely proven to be a good choice for my team despite my not testing with it at all. Ludicolo still can't hit a Hydro Pump to save its life. Mawile has been whiffing a bunch of Play Roughs but has otherwise been extremely solid.

Day 2 of these tournaments are always the most difficult to keep your rating. I'm trying something a bit different myself this time round by running Hydreigon as my dragon of choice.
