Shedinja can't actually feel your petting due to wonder guard. Unless your hand is on fire or some shit like that, your touches have no effect. The only reason it gets hearts is because deep down it's still a pokemon and it appreciates your intentions. There's a lot to be said for a trainer that still takes the time to play with their pokemon, even if it's an immobile husk that can not and does not do anything cute like the others do.
