Rain is still a highly viable archetype in the high echelons of the ladder. MegaSwampert will probably be everything Poliwrath ever wanted to be, will be more resilient than Kabutops and with more firepower (and less weaknesses) than Kingdra. It also has type synergy with Thundurus, which means one can easily set up Rain for the other, and Thundurus could even add insult to injury Thunder Waving anything so Swampert will be first regardless. And, of course, Swampert isn't weak to any priority, and in fact resists a couple of them.
