Essentially, the fossil Pokémon we have today are inferior recreations of their past selves. "Mega" Aerodactyl is actually assuming the form that the original Aerodactyls flew around as millions of years in the past.

Does this mean that primal state Kabutops will actually be Water/Bug typing?

Ability: Hyper Cutter

Drop in defense and plus Speed. This is assuming they only give him +60. He'd be a monster after swords dance but he'd be walled by bulky water types like Jellicent or maybe revenge killed by few considering he does have aqua-jet.

If only that were the case anon.
The fossil pokemon we have now are their original forms revived in a Jurassic Park-esque way.
Kyogre and Groudon now were never fossilized like they were so their evolution never halted and because they were resting for such a long time their bodies evolved away the power they had no use for.
