Ya know not trying to insult you but it's just a phoenix. I don't dislike the design but to most people Lugia is more interesting because it's not just a incredibly generic red/rainbow bird but has weird (read: interesting) features like hand wings.

That's why it never got a movie.

I think there's plenty of things that make Ho-Oh visually interesting that aren't part of the template of a firebird/phoenix. Phoenixes are often portrayed with long, droopy tail feathers, but Ho-Oh's are straight and in a circular pattern, combined with Ho-Oh's signature pose it gives off the impression of the Sun itself. In the older art Ho-Oh's wings also arc in said pose, with the feathers at the tip almost meeting. And who can forget the mad gaze? Shit, this nigga looks ANGRY. I remember some Stadium 2 promo flyers having 3D models of Ho-Oh where his eyes were full of bright-red blood veins.

The sun effect is cool, he can look impressive but that would be lost in movement of a feature movie except for a couple of seconds of posing.
