Pic related is the internal list of Brawl. The top row is an accurate representation of when all the characters, including the cut ones, were added to the game.
The first 11 are all veterans from the first game. Following that, every character up to Ganon were veterans from Melee. After that you have Brawl's newcomers.
At the very end you have a few characters that made it into the game and a bunch that were cut. These are all characters that were very likely deemed unimportant and expendable early on in developement. Notice that Jigglypuff is in that section.

Why does everyone think that? Unless he transforms and then just uses an attack like say Samus' Zero Laser, then Mewtwo X would be the likely choice if his Final Smash would just be a copy of Charizard's and Lucario's

That's true, and I do like Mewtwo Y more but if we go on the assumption that Mewtwo's Final Smash would be his Mega Form and it would operate the same as Mega Lucario and Mega charizard operate in Smash Bros. 4, and if we also assume his moveset would be similar to his Melee moveset, then they would have to use Mewtwo X because a lot of Mewtwo's involves his tail and they probably wouldn't want to go through the trouble of programming a new move set for just a Final Smash since Mewtwo Y tail is on his head.

If his Final Smash was Mewtwo Y, then would probably just transform, go off screen and fire some sort of Kamehameha wave.

Yeah, I don't see Mewtwo making it either. I was pulling for him a bit because I liked him in Melee and I thought it would be cool to see a character return after missing a game, but chance are very slim.

I like Charizard, he's been my bro since Gen 1, but he is one of the two characters on this rooster that I don't think was a good decision.

That was then. This is now. Mewtwo is significant enough to get two megas, and it got another movie last year. It's far more relevant and officially acknowledged now than it was when Brawl came out. On top of that it had a bunch of unused data in Brawl, has been fan requested to come back, and it's a character they don't have to make from scratch. His chances are high.

Sort of. I had hope that Snake was going to come back but figured if he wasn't announced by this E3 he wasn't gonna come back. But Sakurai said that he wasn't giving any personal treatment to Namco just because they're helping make it, so I assumed Pac-Man wasn't going to be in.

To be fair though I also just hate the idea of Pac-Man being in the game in general, so that didn't help any.

you obviously have no clue what you are talking about.
Mewtwo, along with the other removed characters had next to zero unused data. He has an entry on the fighter data table, a completely empty dummied out effect file, a dummied out entry on the fanfare table, and a soundbank entry that never had anything in it to begin with.
Roy had all of that as well minus the soundbank entry. All of the other unused characters only had an entry on the fighter chart and the effect file.
Regardless what you think, that is next to nothing as far as character data goes.

It had more than Mario in Brawl, if you count PT's Pokemon separately. Which Sakurai does, as he refers to Brawl as having 39 characters.

A wording nitpick about one point in my post means I obviously have no clue what I'm talking about? Wow!

The fact is, Mewtwo had the most unused data out of all the unused character data in Brawl. They wouldn't have made a file for a wii remote selection sound clip if they weren't planning something. No other unused character had this. On top of that, only Roy and Mewtwo had the victory theme.

That doesn't exist. The amount of data that exists for all of the unused characters suggests that they were ALL cut at around the same time. The last modified dates on the files suggests the same thing. Mewtwo might have been the last one to be cut, but he was still cut at the very beginning of development.

No. Mewtwo isn't coming back, and if he was they would have revealed him during one of the SEVERAL mega-mewtwo pandering/hype bullshit anime specials. Seeing as they haven't, I say that if he isn't announced around July 19 (the release date of the Diancie movie, which is to feature the MegaMewtwos), then its chances of appearing in the new smash are literally 0%.

Pardon me if I'm shitting on Mewtwo, but I've really grown to dislike it with all the MegaMewtwo shit floating about. They are pushing it on us almost harder than Charizard, and harder than Lucario.

Mewtwo is popular, but I feel like his popularity lies within a vocal minority. First lets get some things out of the way: Charizard is the most popular pokemon of all time. It has consistently won polls and the like for a long time, and regardless of whether you like him or not, it was unquestionable he'd return. Lucario is the most popular pokemon from Gen IV onwards, and is practically the mascot to people who started playing then. At this point, I'm willing to believe the original 12 are here to stay. People may no longer understand why Jigglypuff was on the roster in the first place, but you bet there would be outrage if she were cut. Already taking up 5 slots, whereas there were only 4 in brawl (6 if you are gonna be a chucklefuck and count Pokemon Trainer as 3) I highly doubt Mewtwo will make the cut.

This has nothing to do with Mewtwo's chances. They add both characters the devs themselves want but aren't very fan requested (WFT) but they also had plenty of fan requested/popular characters (Mega Man, Villager, Charizard). Mewtwo has a great chance. ;)

I didn't think he had a chance until I saw Megaman being confirmed.
Now I know they might put in a character just to get people to stop crying.
Even though I never used him in Mahvel, I WAS confused as to why he didn't make it in. But after that people left and right wanted him in everything, it just got annoying.
Then games started putting cameos and references of him IN everything and those guys only got even more mad.
They probably got tired of drying their clothes of all those tears from fans and decided to put him in Smash, now I barely see any complaints anywhere.
Maybe the same will happen for Mewtwo. I wouldn't mind, as more Pokemon is fine with me, but seriously, stop complaining before the game is even out.
We'll find out eventually.

Don't worry anon. All of that is just baseless rumors. Sakurai never said anything about cutting the roster size, he said it was hard to balance so many characters and didn't want to add as many characters as was added in Brawl. This was said before the team-up with Namco.

As far as vets go, I say scrap motherfucking Jigglypuff. FUCK it, it's not even in the anime anymore which was the only reason it was in SSB in the first place because weebs thought it was kawaii~ I wouldn't care if they scrapped Ness either. I know we need a Mother rep, but there hasn't been an Earthbound game in 15 years and Ness sucks, Lucas was way better. Maybe buff his Up+B or something to make him less gay.

I usually just smogonize the items myself and turn off the broken ones. Items themselves are kind of broken as far as competitive play goes, since if there's high items on and you're a character that is more agile and can easily get items, then you have a huge advantage over Bowser. I'd say it's debatable in all honesty. In melee, someone that's shit like Bowser still had options and approaches against good characters like Falco, Fox, Marth, Jiggs, etc. In brawl, however, the bottom 10 or so characters have 0:10 against Meta Knight even if he doesn't lame it out. 64's a bit in the middle because everyone was really good, although the platforming was a bit buggy so Pikachu wins just out of having a recovery.

And honestly, I don't know why they nerfed so many of the characters, even characters that were never particularly good like Zelda and Kirby while erasing fan favorites like Captain Falcon.

They nerfed Fox, which was good. The bad thing about that is that Falco just became vastly superior. Not to say that Fox wasn't good in Brawl, but Falco was just as fast, but stronger. He was slower while running, and his Up+B didn't have QUITE as much range, but all his other pseudo-clone attacks out-did Fox in every way, which was a shame. They buffed Bowser, though, which was awesome.

Personally, I'm still hoping for Mewtwo. We've got a few more months, anything can change.

And I'd want Mega Mewtwo X to be featured since MMY already got featured in the Genesect film. MMX is more of a fighter anyway, it's bulkier and all that, though I guess MMY would make sense too. Anyways, my faith won't be shaken until the final call in October. If Mewtwo makes it in, awesome! If not, oh well. We'll have to wait and see.

Wolf has all really good attributes, but what sucks is that he is super vulnerable to chain grabs, and since most of the popular characters (falco, D3, Pikachu, Meta Knight, Ice climbers etc.) have crazy good chain grabs, he gets fucked real easily. Not to mention that he's really buggy, so sometimes he simply does not grab onto edges.

Captain Falcon is trash in Brawl. He was considered the worst character in the game until it was discovered that Link, Jiggly, Zelda, and Ganondorf are all worse than him. He's still awful though.

The thing that made Falcon good in melee (Fast aerial speed made him have a great punish game, which played in nicely with melee's hitstun) was stripped from brawl. In brawl, his aerial speed was very slow, and since hitstun could be cancelled, he couldn't combo like he used to anymore.

Falcon's pretty bad because his Melee/Brawl incarnations are 95% air based characters that rely on speed. But since they took momentum out of Brawl and his speed was drastically decreased, he lost all of his combo ability, especially since hitstun was drastically increased. When people bitch about how brawl lost it's sidescrolling elements and became casualized, they point to him as the prime example.

Link has always been shit due to being slow as hell and lacking any approach options, although he is a lot like Eddy in Tekken where there's people who play link that mostly just press random buttons and there's players that know how to use him super well, and he can surprise a lot of newcomers. That being said, Toon Link is far better comparatively than Young link in melee.

Timing Link's finishing moves and optimizing his B weapons are the key, I do not think he is anywhere near the bottom-tier characters like Ganondorf, Puff, Dedede and Samus. Falcon's aerial Up+A is great. Lots of stopping power for such a quick attack.

Not a chance, even if items or anything of that nature was on. The top level players that play brawl know some serious frame data about the game, and in the case of say, an ice climbers main, they could abuse all of the various chaingrabs in the game and just stomp us. I use Diddy Kong, who is considered to be one of the best, and they could easily murder me with any character they wanted.

There isn't much to show to Brawl in terms of flashy gameplay, so it's more about the mindgames than anything. Those players have a really in-depth knowledge on the game, so it's more about mindgames and the like. I used to feel the same way when I used to watch CvS2 matches, but once you understand the specific frame values and how the game works, then you understand why they're at the top. It's comparable to how many students that take math can "understand" the problems when the teacher works it out but can't apply it on tests.

That being said, one of the bad things about the Brawl scene is that there is a massive gap between the players that go to the local game store with their falco and the top level players, so chances are that G&W was total garbage anyways.

If the final build is going to be anything like the demo one at E3, the pokemon spawning rates will be much much better. It wasn't just the same 55 Pokemon 90% of the time.
Project M actually fixed the spawning rates and made the Pokeball Pokemon much better in general. It actually surprised me.

With fighting games in general, most of the skill comes with a love for the game and dedication rather than raw talent. Another code I like is the world wrap and reverse/very fast time codes.
The world wrap code disabled the death boundary on the sides and instead warped the player to the other side. The time code affected the time speed in stages. Having it set to reverse broke some stages in amusing ways.
The leaves in Distant Planet would send anyone who stepped on them over the top death boundary and kill them. Big blue would just slowly fly into the sky.
