I'll be honest, OP. through Gen 4 I got like that. I didn't care about the mon, just it's stats. When there was stuff coming out about Unova, I didn't care what everything looked like. I didn't care about Dex info. It was the stats that got me interested.

Then, when I started playing White, and getting into the desert for the first time, I ran into a scraggy.
I could have one shot it with my Unfeazant that I had already level grinded up to full evolution.
But then I saw his idle animation of picking his pants up, and I fell in love with pokemon again, right then and there. I whittled down the thing's HP and caught the little guy, and I boxed the super ultra competetive mons I had scummed up to get at that point, and I started using that Scraggy.
To this day I'm still using my bud Rudie, and, despite having a bad nature, he still kicks ass.
And he's my bro.

Ever since then I've pretty much gone full-on karenfag and I haven't looked back once.
I moved from Smogon to VCG and I play with my buddies instead of on showdown.

It's fun again, and my Ace Nig Rudie is who made it fun again.

Unfortunately, competitive battling has desensitized many pokemon fans into playing the game for a different reason than what it used to be and what it was meant to be. I went through that phase during Gen IV. The game is so much more enjoyable when you play the game notmslly just to enjoy it, rather than all that ludicrous bullshit that comes with competitiveness

The fuck's up with all the Zubat hate? Eviolite Golbat and Crobat are some of the most based fuckers in the game in the right hands. Not to mention sweet designs, cool unique typing and plenty of options to run, extremely easy to obtain/raise and useful for in-game runs. One of the most bro-tier evo lines ever introduced. The only place in PC my Golbat would ever find itself is in my main team box along with the very best while I'm testing some new mons.

I like to think that its not exactly a rule that you can't use more than 1, its just impossible/way too difficult to sync up mentally with more than 1 pokemon at a time. Im kinda thinking along the lines of in Origins how they explain that a good trainer has to be in sync with its pokemon as theyre giving commands or the pokemon will pick up on their lack of confidence and wont respond sharply.

When they mentioned the whole friendship and bonding aspect on Mega evolving ingame, I assumed I'd have to get max friendship or something just to get them to Mega evolve. Spent ages with my Pinsir, even in Amie, then heard from my mate when he was round how he was going to try M-Heracross out from a Heracross he just caught.

Honestly in every pokemon game i tried hardly catch only pokemon i will use, so i dont have even one box filled, since there are only legendaries. Im just catching things, bonding to them, and we kill all together. Im singleplayer guy, so no competitive.

Except it's not fucking tedious, people are just retarded. They gain happiness every level, just slap a soothe bell on there and do some grinding in Le Wow and they evolve quickly. Or if you're really impatient, just feed them tons of the EV reducing berries which are easy as fuck to get now.

It's only in-game where it takes any time, and then at least you can't just megavolve anything willy-nilly. Of course, they'd still have to give you something other than the starter's megastone before completing the game.

Pokemon needs an overhaul.

Competitive battling can be a good way to stretch a game's playing time but the current system is too rotten for that.

It begin with pokemon being objectively better then others, meaning that only a few will be used in competitive battling while the rest rots.

GF should try balancing it more so people can actually use the pokemon they traveled with in competitive play.

I think it's safe to say that for most of us, gen IV turned all of us into smogon fags, myself included.

They need to

1. Remove IVs, they're pointless and completely cancerous to using anything you haven't autistically bred
2. Let natures be changed, just show the original nature so it would be something like "Sassy, but Timid in battle" where you get the benefits of a Timid nature even though the Pokemon was originally Sassy

Since you can retrain EVs pretty easily that would make most Pokemon fairly useable in comp, and you'd be able to use the bros you caught in-game with a little work.

Golbat is even more annoying. Bulk out of the ass, great movepool, and when used in tandem with hazards and something to keep said hazards on the field, it is literally one of the most rage inducing things around. With screens up, it's basically gg - it waltzes in, spreads poison, spams WW, kills off weakened shit, tanks nigh anything, heals up and repeats process, while stuff like MGuard Zam or Espeon are usually molested by spinblockers such as Gar/Aegis that it's usually paired with.
