Grab a list of Pokemon.
Write down 6 that you have never used before.
That's your team. Catch them, use them, beat the game with them.

If you want a specific game/gen, obviously only look at pokemon you can get in that game.

thanks, but that's pretty much what I do normally. I don't always plan it out, but that's not really a challenge.

I guess I'm looking for an interesting theme or set of rules to use throughout the game, not just when I choose my pokemon, and doesn't rely on me grinding for hours.

I'm'm currently playing a marathon, the rules I've been using so far is:

>No Items during battles
>Can't repeat types
>Only Pokemon from the same generation

Meaning that if I have a Pidgeot, I can't use a Gyarados, for example. These rules are more than enough to make the game more challenging and forces me to think my team better before I start playing. I can't use Pokemon that evolve by trade or get them through trades from other games. The only games I've broken the last rule have been in HG and in W2 (which I'm currently playing) since I'd already played Crystal and planning to play White as soon as I finish W2.

Yeah, I like that. I think most of the challenges I see are either based on what pokemon you can or can't use, or they're a nuzlocke and involve a lot of grinding.

I guess if I want a more challenging game I could always forbid mid-battle healing, like you suggested, and turn the game from "shift" to "set". little thing like that help.

I always use Set, you can be surprised at how hard the game can suddenly turn when you can't switch after each Pokemon and can't heal in battles.

I've even lost to first gyms. Falkner surprised me with his Roost Pidgeotto and Cheren´s Lillipup ended being stronger than my Oshawott. Nothing to do but try again.Oh yes, and no savescumming.

There's nothing like getting shit on in your first few minutes to make you want to quit a Locke, but you must persevere.

One time I was soloing a Crobat in BB for like 2 gyms.

This is only the beginning. Always expect crits and switch level till it's no longer a problem. Hopefully you're not playing with a ton of extra rules. I was on set, no items and only using wild caught Pokemon so the gen 5 first gym was a god damn nightmare. A level 14 opponent that boosts and has type advantage versus your starter sucks, especially when the best place to train has max level 7 wild Pokemon.

I'm playing white with the same rules, but I'm taking the gift pokemon and counting it toward the pokemon for the area, so it won't be terrible.

All of my early bros dying also meant my starter got a few extra levels, so I guess its not too bad.

I've had a bad stretch of luck since I took Morty on, losing two mons clearing him and his gym out and two more not long after. Granbull fell to the last gym trainer in Morty's gym, dying to a Drifblim's Aftermath, then Heracross fell against his Sableye when I didn't even think about Aerial Ace and he got OHKO'd.

So after that I decided to head to Tohjo and get an overlevelled catch there for later, bad move, my Tentacool got OHKO'd by my catch, a Quagsire, using Aqua Tail after he had set up a Barrier. Caught the Quagsire, which I'll hopefully get to use against Jasmine shortly.

Then I headed down to Cianwood, getting a Wailmer, Doduo, Corsola and Clamperl on the way, and missing a Miltank on Route 39 when it nearly killed Umbreon with Rollout and wouldn't be caught, then headed back to grind up my team for Chuck, when I ran into another Miltank.

Thinking it would be some easy exp, I send Donphan in, confident that Rock Smash would win the battle, when it proceeded to Bide on me. The first Rock Smash did around 50% damage, so I thought that the second would kill it and I'd be safe, when the second one managed to fail to OHKO and leave it on or near 1HP. I tried to run, but Donphan just didn't have the speed, and was killed by the Bide.

So I've brought Breloom back on to the team to take Heracross' spot, with Lanturn, Scizor and Togepi being added for good coverage. Just grinding team up to 34-35 and heading back to take Chuck on.

My excuse for using Quilava was he was underleveled since I used Geodude to clear the well.

Anyway, Hoppip with Bullet Seed managed to bring down Crocnaw to red before dying and Geo dude finished it off.

Caught a Oddish in the forest, now level 19, and a Ratatta, now level 17, on Route 34. I'm currently debating on using Togepi or not since it was given to me.

I-is there still hope for me?

Good things! Evolved Cherubi, and Cherrim is already proving both surprising and very useful. Beat Gardenia a while before, with two under-leveled counters. And, after a lengthy grinding session, everyone's on about the same level to finally face Fantina. Also, say hello to Benedict there - to say that I was exceedingly lucky in getting a Modest nature for him is an understatement. I do hope he can make it all the way to Togekiss...but Nuzlockes offer cruel twists of fate sometimes.

And speaking of, bad things, Cinnamon fell to a crit Psybeam from an Ace Trainer's Misdreavus in Hearthome Gym, one Bite away from finishing the job. Prior to that, I lost Taco to the Chimchar/Pachirisu Picnicker duo on Route 207, relying on a risky strategy that involved Almond using Magnitude on both of them and Taco helping while avoiding friendly fire. She lasted one Spark, but one Super Potion was all I had for healing, and even though both foes were on the verge of fainting and she lasted another Spark, Chimchar decided to follow Pachirisu's lead. One Ember later, and that was all she wrote...the price I pay for taking too much of a risk.

And then, before Cinnamon's death, on a stupid and darkly amusing note, I lost Almond to a staggering case of human error, wherein I was focusing both on the game and on computer tasks. Running into a wild Roselia, I moved to switch to Ponyta as I was in the process of leveling up Benedict, then a Togepi. I hit the area of the touch screen where Malasada was, and turned back to my monitor. When I looked again, I discovered to my horror that I had accidentally sent Almond out...and one Magical Leaf killed him instantly.

He deserved a far, far better fall than that, and I still feel ashamed.

In front of Fantina now, and Laulau also knows Thief, to do extra damage...let's hope this goes well, and let's hope I don't make more stupid mistakes. Fallen friends will be honored, or I will fall trying.

Get past Fantina. Lose Laulau to her Mismagius, confident that she could weather another Psybeam after taking a Magical Leaf after being healed. Beat Barry no problem. Run into the schoolgirl duo on Route 209 with Mr. Mime and Bonsly. Send out Bonbon and Benedict. Use Jump Kick on the Bonsly for Bonbon, and since he still didn't have any other means of attack, went for Metronome on Benedict.

And he used Explosion.

So, that's two party members gone. Fucking brilliant.

Considering that Metronome has access to almost all of the hundreds of individual moves present in the game, and the odds of it selecting something like Self-Destruct or Explosion are astronomically small, it's not exactly the fault of a conscious decision to use Explosion more than it's the outcome of a roll of the dice, isn't it? And Metronome did me right in the past - what was stopping me from using it?

Something I've only just realised now from doing this Nuzlocke, I fucking hate Victory Road!

Muuka, Dempachi, Jelibel, Gruzzle (was originally Muuka's replacement, apparently not for long) and Zenorse, all dead! but somehow, despite all that death. I cleared Victory Road with only Griskus and Lorpscoo.

Now I could add a bunch of new Pokemon to my team but I really don't want to. It just seems stupid that I put in all this effort to beat the game with my team only for them to die and be replaced by some shit boxmons RIGHT at the very end.

Does anyone think beating the Elite Four/Champion is plausible with only these two? I think I might have a chance, Drasna and Diantha are really the only threats.

Going to bed now, plan to challenge Elite Four as soon as I wake up.

If you're referring to the Croagunk, it's Modest.
I did really want to use Gligar (found in a horde and I just randomly picked the one I thought 'looked' the best, got an Adamant with Hyper Cutter) but he can't evolve, not sure if he's still good despite that.
The more I think about it Klefki could be fun but the shroom I've used so many times I'm kind of bored with it.

This probably isn't really that challenging, but a while back, while porting everything from my Ruby cart up the line, I left the game with only a low-level zigzagoon. It gave me an idea.

I started the game off normally, got to the point where I could buy more pokeballs and then caught six zigzagoon. I released the starter and began the affectionately dubbed Zigzagoon Run. Each Zigzagoon had an effective role, and the fact that they all had Pickup meant that they were raking in mad bank.

Brawley fucked me up something fierce, however.

For those times when I need to cross areas that need HMs Linoone and Zigzagoon can't learn, I have a couple of 'tour guide' pokemon. I would say BB/VW1 because gyms/e4 are double battles, and skyla, bianca and cheren are triple and rotation battles. Also BW1 unova has the smallest number of catches in any nuzlocke

I tried doing a nuzlocke of ruby a couple of times. One time had a shiny beautifly. It was cash and then I got bored and killed my pokemon by accident.

I want to try black/white 2, is it hard or interesting? It will be my first time playing those two but I played black before. Disappoints me that all the pokemon won't be new, but I guess that's alright if there are no fuckin woobats.

Spent almost 2 days slowly levelling up Pokemon for my team and now I'm finally finished.

Team looks fine, you have 2 pokemon for Malva, 3 with EQ for Wilkstrom, Drasna might give you a hard time (kinda) because you have one Ice Beam and one fairy attack (I'd let Toxicroak take care of Dragalge), the chef guy might also be a tiny bit hard and Diantha is a joke.

I actually had a Sandshrew from route 4, west of Cerulean. Then I remembered that that's technically the same route as the pkmn center on the other side where I got Glubs, so had to release.

I can actually still go to the grass in the route east of Cerulean, forgot about that.

The Scyther was intimidated and Tequila was at full hp. I still don't know how that Wing Attack killed him. It wasn't even a crit.

What I'm looking for is more pokemon available, enhanced difficulty, physical special split, and Kanto/Johto Pokemon given their evolutions that appear in future games.

I know there's Drayano's HGSS hack but Gen 2 just feels so nice, what with the colour limitations making everything so vibrant like PC98 graphics.

That's ridiculous. It's absurdly difficult to make it through most early games without a single encounter, it requires a godly amount of luck to do so. You don't need to gimp yourself like that.

I hardly think missing a Rattata is gimping yourself by much. The first 3 routes all contain the same stuff more or less, discounting viridian forest and the one left of Viridian City.

I did almost make it through without an encounter though, was the last patch of grass.

The common rule of thumb for Lockes is that the rules kick in once you get the balls.

So if you whiff your rival battle you don't need to restart, but if you lose your mon trying to catch your first encounter, you do.

Well part of the point is to raise Pokemon you normally wouldn't. I'm doing SoulSilver right now and I normally wouldn't have a Nidoran or Hoothoot, and definitely not Brodrill. And I definitely wouldn't have caught a Sentret(but I'm glad it's dead).
